1. I'd personally recommend Debian, but then I have to say that ;)

2. I tend to use vsftpd these days. The configuration is pretty simple.

3. If you install samba, you should be able to access files shared on the Linux box from your windows machine.

Do I need all 5 DVD iso images?? Seems excessive for a Linux install. lol.

No.. you just need the "netinst" image (about 150M I think), which contains the installer and the base system. Everything else gets downloaded from the 'net when you need it.

Ah, downloaded 'em anyway. THe joys of 50Mb Virgin cable. ;)

WEll, tomorrow is the "install" day, so lets see how it goes.
