For an early birthday present, Jenn took me to see Psychic TV again tuesday night! She didn’t want to miss the chance and I was really hoping to make more than one of the 5 shows… New York is only 2 hours away after all. We were not disappointed! The set featured mostly tracks off the new as yet unreleased album… She Touched Me, In Thee Body, Lies and Then, Milk Baba, Hookah Chalice, Maximum Swing and New York Story; as well as a 13th Floor Elevators cover w/ Gibby Hanes on vocals and an awesome reworked version of Papel Breakdance for the finale. Gibby Hanes performed for the entire show as a member of PTV3 on laptop, rack synths or whatever the hell else other electronics he had piled up in the corner… I introduced Jenn to Zef Noi$e before the set and was really happy she got to hear his badass viola playing (I was worried because he wasn’t listed to perform the last night…) Ran into Markus in the men’s room (how typical) and gave him a hug. There were really fucking cool t-shirts for sale that weren’t there the 1st night I went. Too bad we had already spent all our cash on magic hats and shots of jaager (sp?) Anyway, the sound was incredible, the performance top notch and I’m not just saying that because they are my favorite band ever… these last couple nights demonstrated why. In a weird way, I feel like this has always been how they’ve sounded, with the same line-up and everything. This hyperdelic bringin’ down the house garage band from outerspace with their insane improv noise intermissions, beautifully crafted songs, and weirdass children’s stories, completely humble yet royal, a truly transmedia psychedelic experience… Afterwards, Jenn and I gave Genesis what s/he referred to as a love sandwich. The L train was shut down till 5 in the morning and just when we started to feel stranded a man named Michael approached us and said he heard us talking with the subway worker and offered us a ride all the way to 42nd street. At first we were a little sketched out. He was a really big dude and he was just kind of standing by his car when we first saw him, but then he asked us how we liked the show and as it turns out, he just happened to be stopped where we were, getting a snack. On the way, he told us about seeing Throbbing Gristle at All Tomorrows Parties and Thee Majesty at the Bowery etc. we realized we were in good hands. I tipped him which he tried to refuse several times and we made our way back to Port Authority exhausted and happy. PTV is alive and well :)
