Previous Chapter

"You...You're part of the Sphinx clan..." Jessica mumbled as she watched the girl across from her re-zip her dress, and turn around to face her once more.

"Was part of the Sphinx clan," Tiffany corrected, "I was kicked out, and banished from the clan. Why else would I be here?"

Jessica dropped onto her knees, after just successfully standing up a few seconds ago. So far, this was making no sense at all. Making sure she wouldn't pass out from the overload of information, she swallowed and cautiously asked, "Then...the people who killed my family was--"

"The Sphinx clan. Yep, that's right." She pressed her palms into her temples, a swirl of emotions invading her brain. So...this whole time...I've been deceived--no used by them, when they were the ones who took everything away from me... Tears slipped out of her eyes as she bent over, the familiar pain in her heart awakening once more. Was crying the thing she should be doing right now? For one thing, it felt like her family had died for the second time, and the fact that everyone was just using her also added to the pain. Why is everyone against me? Wait. She didn't have to blame herself. The Sphinx clan was the one who killed her family. The Sphinx clan was the one who transformed her into a cold-blooded monster. They were to blame.

Jessica's body began shaking, her anger starting to boil up. They were the ones who took everything away from her; they were the ones who used her for their dirty deeds. Well then, they were going to pay. She stood up, and reached for her discarded gun on the floor. Paying no attention to the girl who was staring at her with worried eyes, she made her way to the door. As soon as she managed to crack the door open, it was immediately shut closed.

"Move. It." Jessica growled at the hand that was pressed firmly against the wooden door.

"What do you plan on doing?" Tiffany asked, concern glinting in her eyes.

"What do you think? I'm heading straight to Korea, and going to beat the shit out the Sphinx clan. They lied to me; they used me. I'm going to make sure that no Sphinx clan member live to see the next day--"

She didn't finish her rant as she felt her entire body spin around, and press itself against the door. Before she could react, her arms were pinned by her head. Jessica glared at the short-haired girl ferociously, "What the hell are you doing?"

"You're not thinking straight. Blindly fighting the Sphinx clan is not the smart way to go."

"What would you know?!" Jessica shouted, fighting against the grip on her arms. Tiffany quickly moved her arm and pushed the fabric on Jessica's shoulder to the side, showing the mark burned onto her shoulder. She pressed an index finger into the mark, "Rule #1 of the Black Cat: Never let emotions control your battles."

Growling, Jessica shoved the girl away, and paced towards the headrest of the bed. She tightly gripped the wood, exhaling loudly, hoping to release stress. The room was filled with an awkward silence for a while, until Tiffany spoke up. "You still want to eliminate the Sphinx clan, don't you?" Jessica turned around, feeling a little bit calmer. "I have to if I want to avenge my family." Sighing, the other girl turned, and sat in a chair, crossing her legs. She stared at the ground for a while, a frown upon her face. Jessica stared at her, her eyes examining carefully. Why is it...that she looks really cute frowning like that..? She mentally smacked herself for even having a thought like that, and shook her head violently.

She straightened nervously when she noticed Tiffany stand up, and look at her. "Let me help you." Jessica blankly stared at her. Was there something in her ears? "Let me help you. Let me come with you." Tiffany repeated. It took Jessica a good 5 minutes to fully comprehend what the other girl had just said.

"Wha- ARE YOU INSANE?! Why should I let you help me with something that's originally my problem?!"

"You honestly think you can take down an entire clan by yourself? Plus, I might have information about the clan that might be useful to you." Tiffany retorted, "Besides, I have a score to settle with them, too."

Jessica inhaled air through her nose. Though she hated to admit it, she had a point. She was determined to take down the Sphinx clan, there was no way she could kill them all. Maybe a little help wouldn't be too bad. "Fine..." She recoiled at the sound of a squeal emitting in the air. Tiffany bounced her way in front of the girl, and strongly patted her shoulder, "You won't regret your decision!" She finished off with an insanely bright eye-smile. Jessica turned her head away quickly, concealing her blush. What's with the sudden burst of energy? Talk about bipolar... "We leave tomorrow afternoon, maybe 1pm or something. I heard there was a flight to Korea at 4 o' clock, so that might help. I'll give you this room tonight for free."

Tiffany turned towards the desk next to the bed, and rummaged through its drawers. Pulling out what seemed to be paper, she grabbed a pen on the table, and began jotting something. Ripping the parchment from the notepad, she placed the note into Jessica's hand. "Call me when you're ready." She released the note, and winked at her before she turned around. Jessica let out her held breath when she heard the door close behind the leaving girl.

Jessica retreated to the bed, and collapsed onto her back. She stared at the ceiling, lifting the phone number into her view. This was one extremely odd day. "Why do I have the feeling I'm going to regret what I did?" she muttered to no one in particular, feeling sleep beginning to take over her body.

The sound of feet pacing back and forth echoed in the silent metro station. Jessica raised her wristwatch to her face. 1:25pm... God Damnit, where the hell is that girl? The metro is going to be here in 5 minutes... As if on cue, she heard racing footsteps run down the staircase. She turned around to find a panting Tiffany stop in front of her, placing her hands on her legs. Before Jessica could yell at the girl for being late, her eyebrow arched at the girl's choice of clothing. The latter stood up straight, showing her tied-back hair hidden under a baseball cap. A simple, white t-shirt was covered by a khaki jacket, followed by khaki cargo pants with white tennis shoes.

Noticing that the girl was staring at her weirdly, Tiffany covered her arms over her chest, and frowned slightly, "W-What are you looking at?"

"You look like you're going to enter the army..." Jessica said nonchalantly, checking the clock above the ticket booth.

"Hey! It's been a really long time since I've been in combat! You honestly think I know what to wear?"

"Even then, you shouldn't try to cross-dress."

Tiffany jaw hung agape at the remark. Feeling her eye twitch, she just huffed and pouted, hoping for the train to come faster. Jessica couldn't help, but stare at the pouting girl. She may act like a child, but she seems really cute. A small smile reached her lips, but was interrupted at the sound of an approaching train. "Come on, Jessica. Metro's here." Tiffany announced as she tugged slightly at her jacket sleeve. She only nodded, and followed her into the train.

"Wow, it's pretty empty in here, considering it's the middle of the day..." Jessica murmured, as she saw no signs of life in the car. Shrugging it off, she took a seat parallel to Tiffany's. Feeling the train shake, she assumed that they were moving and relaxed into her seat. The car slightly vibrated as the transportation zoomed by tunnels. Jessica nervously played with her fingers, avoiding eye contact with the girl across from her. Times like this she wished that her social skills hadn't worsen as she spent her time around solitary people.

The silence in the car was killing Jessica on the inside with every minute that passed. Ugh, this train needs to go faster...Why am I even dealing with this girl anyway? "Hey." Her head jerked up to the voice, her eyes meeting Tiffany's curious ones.

"What?"

"Just wondering...but you know who Kwon Yuri is, right?"

"Yeah, she's the one who introduced me to the Sphinx clan."

Tiffany shifted in her seat as she crossed her legs. Placing her elbow on her thigh, she positioned her chin onto her open palm. "What do you think about her?"

Jessica could only blink at the question. It was really random, but if it would start a conversation, she didn't mind. "At first, I thought she was all tough, and cool. Though, the more I hung around her, the more happy and annoying she got." She heard the girl across from her snort, and gave her a questioning look.

Tiffany stared at the darkness zooming pass them out the window, and plainly said, "I expected that. We use to hang around a lot. When the clan planned on attacking your house, we were the ones that were suppose to spy on your family, specifically you. The longer we watched you, the more Yuri became infatuated with you." She ignored Jessica's stunned expression, and continued, "Back then, I thought it was disgusting she had fallen in love, and it was annoying to hear her rant on about how beautiful you were. However..."

When Jessica returned her gaze to the girl, she almost flinched at the smirk on her face, "However, now I can see why she likes you so much." She dealt with Yuri's flirting on a regular basis, but she felt her cheeks become hot for some reason. Blowing air out of her nose, she turned her head to the window behind her when she heard Tiffany slightly giggle.

"Hey Jessica."

"What now?" Tiffany could clearly hear the irked tone.

"Do you like being Black Cat?"

Jessica lightly brushed her finger over the cool surface of the window, slowly descending into her thoughts. It was about two minutes before she replied with a response, "I think I was destined for the role..."

"What does that mean?" Tiffany gazed intently at Jessica, intrigued at the latter's answer.

"Think about it. A black cat is the symbol of misfortune, evil omens; anything negative. They live their lives alone, having no companions, no one for them to love them. Now apply that to the Black Cat role. As a Black Cat, we are to kill without will; bring suffering to others. We are feared and possibly hated deeply. When I think about it, I'm a lot like a black cat."

Only the ratting of metal in the car was heard for a while. Before Jessica could even turn her head, she found Tiffany sitting right beside her. An index finger hovered in front of Jessica's face. "I find your theory wrong." Tiffany stated, soon retreating her finger. The blonde girl frowned at her, confusion written all over her face, "How am I wrong?"

Tiffany's head banged onto the window behind her, staring blankly at the ceiling above, "In Britain, black cats are considered the symbol of good luck," she tilted her head to face the girl beside her, and smiled brightly, "It depends on how you view them."

Something struck in Jessica's heart, a feeling too complicated to describe in words. It depends on how you view them... She gazed at the smiling girl. Lightly pressing her palm into her chest, she thought deeply about those words. How you view them... Still looking at Tiffany, a thought repeated inside her head: Then...How do you view me?

The two shouted in surprise as the train came to an abrupt halt, the force dragging their bodies out of their seats, and throwing them down the aisle. "Fuck, that hurt like hell..." Jessica muttered as she carefully stood up, rubbing her head that had collided into a pole.

"Jessica! Duck!!!" Tiffany cried as she tackled the girl down to the ground. Before the latter could protest, the windows of the train suddenly became a shower of glass, raining on top of the girls. Gunshots rang in Jessica's ear. It only took a second for her to comprehend the situation. "We're being attacked!" She shouted as she swiftly pulled out her gun, and sprung up from the ground.

Abandoning the girl, Jessica jumped out one of the broken window, and loaded her gun. Six men were armed in the empty station, all looking like they want bloodshed today. Shouting a battle cry, Jessica dashed towards a group of three that was closer than the rest. Heading towards the man closest to her, she immediately tried to punch him square in the face. However, moved to the side, evading the punch; exactly what Jessica wanted. Using the momentum her body had gain from the run; she pivoted around on her toes, and delivered a strong kick to the man's back. He cried out in pain as his body flew into another's, their bodies falling into the train tracks behind them. Unfortunately for them, an oncoming train happen to be arriving, and with the speed the train was coming at, their bodies were immediately smashed by the metal train, blood spraying all over the tracks, train, and sidelines. Jessica did not see the horrific incident though as she busied herself with the other offender. The man threw a medley of punches at her, though she dodged each and every one of them. Finding the routine rather boring, she managed to get herself behind the man, pressed the muzzle into his back, and fired.

Just as Jessica was going to throw herself into the other group of men, she found Tiffany jump onto a bench a little distant from the group of men. Her eyes trailed to the hands that dug into a pocket concealed under the girl's jacket. She flinched when she noticed the men beginning to make their way towards Tiffany. Just before Jessica could even take a step, two men cried out in pain, knives sticking out of their chests. The last men growled charged at the girl who bore multiple knives in her hands. A flash zoomed by as the man recoiled, noticing too late that a knife had already punctured him, and fell down into his own pool of blood.

Tiffany returned the knives into her jacket, leaping down from the bench, and made her way to the kneeling Jessica. She noticed the girl staring at the dead man with eyes of hatred, and gave a questioning look. She suddenly understood the look when she noticed what Jessica was staring at: the mark of the Sphinx clan on his neck. "Looks like they know that you know they killed your family..."

"And now they're trying to get rid of me..." Jessica finished, the sound of growling coming right after. Her grip on her gun tightened as she stood up. Looking at Tiffany, she declared, "Let's go, we've got a clan to destroy..." Nodding, the girl followed her to the staircase that lead to the airport nearby.
