not totally feminist though. just a little. like empowering women's lives = good
i really should not be procrastinating on a one page paper. :P this is
just sad. i guess it helps a little bit that the topic is really boring
(do i really care about the different qualities of water?). AND....i
have to write paper at the end of this class, having done research on
an environmental issue of my choice. i suggested finding out the
impacts of SAPs on third world women's interactions with their
environment (they have to provide for their family. but because of SAPs
and privatization of property, moving plots of land towards cash crops,
they're having to move further and further out to carry out their
tasks). i'm really interested in human affairs, especially with women
in the developing world (from my ids seminar). however, my geography
professor is not. and, there has to be some original research. so he
said that if i did pursue it, maybe i could interview a couple third
world women who had been affected by this trend. ...because either i
know a lot of third world women now living in the US who lived under
this (though actually i guess i could interview some nurses/maids since
they usually come here for work to send money back because they can't
earn enough in low-paying jobs in their own countries (because women
are seen as secondary earners, not the main breadwinners)), or they all
just suddenly could afford computers and the internet. ...wow, big ids
rant.
couple weeks ago we had a debate about the "population bomb." my group
was the cornucopians, and another girl from my ids seminar was in the
neo-malthusian group. we turned into bigots, totally just ignoring a
whole bunch of stuff we've learned in ids. it was weird.
oh yeah - post grad options: i'm thinking of joining americorps or
peacecorp. still have to weigh the pros and cons. wow, haven't updated
for a month. but now it's time to get to that paper. :P
