1st and 2nd day of work

There is this awful computer training program that goes over forms of payment, blah blah. I had to get through 4 lessons before it got to familarizing me about how to punch in orders. On one hand it helped me understand what the order screen looks like, how to punch in credit cards, gift cards, cash, "partner" discounts, coupon discounts, etc. But did the program really need to force me to listen to dialogue that a 8 year old could follow? For an hour???

Thank god I only had to spend an hour and a half on that program. Than they threw me on register. I was fine with that. But it was crazy! Plus there were only 3 ppl on the floor, and 2 of them were trainees. And Mara, the only person who knew what they were doing, learned the job about 9 months ago. Poor Mara. But she's an older woman with youngish kids, boys. So she was really paitent with us, and wasn't frustrated at all with doing three things at once.

My printout at the end of the 1st day said I had 23% error (voids and recalls) The second day I had 13%! yea me! The managers and co workers say I'm doing great on register. And i'm transitioning into being expeditor. ( johnny on the spot) calling out drinks, packaging pastries, and getting drip coffees. I gotta learn how to stay in my area though. (not much space to move behind the bar) Its a habit from panera is that you have to be in two places at once.

But really, really confusing. Its the Coffee lingo. Doppio=2 shots of espresso aka, double shot, or grande/venti, troppio = 3 shots, aka americano grande/venti etc. "I want a decaf triple shot grande americano, non fat half soy, no foam, extra hot." try keeping up with caffeine addicts looking for another fix! Now say that two times fast, and you feel my pain. I mean all of the coffees have various combinations different sizes, decaf, iced or light options and its all a different button.
But i started understanding the stuff by the end of the second day. Not necessarily calling the drinks out. a venti decaf easy iced mocha latte with soy and no foam will turn into iced mocha latte, ummmmmm no foam, easy ice and with soy and ummm what was it? oh and its a venti! But yeah, practice practice

The customers are SOOO nice, compared to panera anyway. And the staff are energetic great people. the manager does a great job hiring good people. I feel like I belong. I tease, they tease me back. its fun to work there. And they play music and I kinda danced to "shout" just a little wiggle and foot skipping. and everybody just joined in. Making funny looking dance moves while they are filling out and making ten coffees per minute. So COOL!

Mara, Rick and Nick, Drew, Andrea, Julie, Hasmean, Alex, Andrew, yea team!
