We're in the new place. All the paperwork is done. The house is starting to look like a home. The commute which I've only done 1.5 times so far is... interesting.
The commute will get figured out with time. I'm hoping it'll be tolerable.
But the new place is awesome. I haven't lived this close to my family in years and I really really like it. For the time being I'm feeling kind of homebody-like, just trying to get settled/unpacked. In the long run I think I'll spend more time out doing other stuff on weekends.
The house has it's little idiosyncracies. I've felt the need to dis-assemble a few things here and there A) to see how they work and B) to fix minor issues/adjust things so they work a little better. It's kind of like the process I usually go through with a new bike. Tinkering with it, adjusting it, getting to know it. I like this house.
We were thinking about finishing the upstairs and turning it into a very large bedroom. But at this point we've decided to wait for a bit. Spend some time living in the space and see how the downstairs bedroom works out. My current favorite idea is turning the upstairs into project/studio/workshop/maybe a darkroom space. Could be a lot of fun. We shall see how that all works out. I think we'll wait a year at least, see how the common facilities take shape and go from there.
Yay house!
