So.... Obama has been in office for a few days.
In that time he has done a LOT.
I see a lot of self congratulatory, happy posts on LJ about what he has done so far.
What have you done?
The message of the Obama campaign is that we all have the power to change the world, (Yes we can!) but with that power comes great responsibility.
We have to pick up the part of the work that is ours and DO IT.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
What is your part of the work? What are YOU going to DO to support the Obama presidency?
Now is the time to walk your talk.
The man is in power. He is keeping his end of the bargain. What about you?
What are you going to do to support America?
What are you going to do to make this country, this world, a better place?
My Answer:
I called my "Little Brother" to set a time to hang out.
I'm going to donate platelets about as often as I can (you can donate at Children's Hospital Boston every 2 weeks as opposed to every 56 days for a single red unit donation or 112 days for a double red cell donation.)
I'm going to donate money to worthy causes when I can.
I'm going to volunteer at Bikes Not Bombs.
I'm going to support local businesses, and try to buy products that are made locally, sustainably and with fair labor practices.
When I buy second hand I'm going to try to do it at places that support a worthy cause (like Boomerang's in JP.)
I'm going to donate my used clothing, shoes, and other stuff to worthy causes.
I'm going to support my community and help them out how and when I can.
