I just saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou with my father and sisters. The movie itself was fantastic. More on that at some other date/time. Maybe.
Upon leaving the theatre, on Christmas day around 9:25 in the evenin', I noticed the disparate crowds gathered. What struck my eye was not the asian kids dressed oh so stylishly sitting around a small, round table looking at cards that came in a package that may have contained candy and likely was tied in with a movie promo, but something else. Rather, the girls with their angular haircuts, simply striped scarves, and brightly colored medium-cut peacoats, all uniquely uniform, all escaping their parents house, and furtivelyt glancing over shoulders. The whole night, every kid there had that look, had that glance over their shoulder. So glad to be out of the house, guarded and nervous should some "cool" or at least moderately more relaxed family have decided on an outing to the movie theatre (probably to see meet the fockers that piece of crap [disclaimer: haven't seen it] had throngs of humanity lining up)and report them for getting out.
Or maybe it was just residual tension.
All the same, The Life Aquatic was a fantastic tribute. And my call on the Bowie music was amazing. What can I say, I know portugese, I know Bowie. Even if it's terribly Brazilian accented. Frankly, I'm amazing.
I love you all. Merry Christmas.
