If you make a snowman out of robot snow, do his eyes glow red?
Some months ago, I first encountered the trailer for Casshern, a very pretty-looking Japanese sci-fi film involving cyborgs, giant robots, the terrible toll of warfare upon the collective soul of mankind, and angry white-haired men in red capes. In other words, a live-action anime.
At any rate, I recently downloaded and watched the film. Since it had no subtitles, I prepared for the experience by creating my own subtitles on two flash cards, based on my past anime experience. The first one read "This is pretty", and the second one read "Let us be pretentious now", and I held them up as necessary.
Now, I think watching the film without subtitles was probably the way to go, considering that the hand holding up the "pretentious" card was getting pretty sore by the end of the movie. But the "pretty" hand got a good workout too (oh shut up, you filthy-minded bastards), so I wasn't disappointed. However, there are a few plot points that I wouldn't mind a bit of clarification on. A perfect example would be the robot lightning. Yes, robot lightning. Apparently, in Japan, anything can be a robot, including meteorological/divine phenomena. I'm also a little curious about the ancient mysterious floating castle that comes pre-equipped with a jacuzzi, a sleeping-beauty-themed bedroom suite, a vegetable crisper, and a giant apocalyptic army of robot death.
So, if anyone else here has seen the film with subtitles (Jhayne, I'm looking at you), and could point me in the direction of a script translation, or hell, just give me a one-paragraph summary, I'd appreciate it.
