Freakin' Christmas. As much as it annoys me, I do love it. The years of working retail have made me a horrible shopper-- I blew through Polaris last night at the speed of warp 9, shoving unbelieving yuppies out of my way, getting most of my shopping knocked out in 2 hours: Including wrapping assortments. I did a bit of shopping in Ft Myers when I was with my mom, but that was very low pressure and fun. I just found some stuff that made me think of other people.
I do this every year too: I say, "oh, I'm not going to get _________ and _______ and _____ anything this year" but then I buckle and get them stuff. I'm not terribley extravagant, but I just adore giving stuff to people. Especially stuff I think they will like / want.
I *did* something this year differently though-- I asked my dad to put my name on stuff that will be for his side of the family. I may be an only child (excepting step bros and sis), but I have a huge family. So he's putting my name on Aunt L, Aunt A, Aunt Alice, Uncle R and my step grand parents. These are people I usually buy for- but this year just sucks.
My ceiling is caving in. About a week ago, I walked into my bedroom and there was plaster all over my bed and Simon was looking around blearily. The spot near my bed, bookshelves and computer was falling down. I've spent a week messing with the freakin' apartment people trying to get something done. I have, in the meantime, packed up all my books and put them in the basement. I have moved my computer and bed into the living room, and piled all of my furniture in front of my closet. The crap that's been falling down is mildewy and rotted, so there isn't ANY way I"m living in there.
I finally got a maitenance dude, the office manager and a roofer guy in to look at it yesterday. The roofer guy was at least honest and said "Jesus!". Yes, yes. I *wasn't* making it up. Hopefully, the office manager will be able to talk the owners into giving us a break on the rent. I have been patient, but it's been hard. Apparently, they want me to wait until this coming monday for the ceiling to be fixed. I hate it, but they want to do it right and I can't argue with that. I have thought of a way to reorganize the room so that nothing major will be in the way, should it happen again. God forbid.
We have a new kitty! He is still a little guy, 4 mo., but he is cute. He is now Gary's cat, everyone else in the house had one except him. He adores simon: since he was a stray, I think he equates other cats with "mommy", but people are still a bit scary. Since we've all been thrown together in the living room, he's trusting me and he trusts Gary, but that's pretty much it.
Ack! Ack!!!!! Says Bill the Christmas Yack cat!!! Ack!! The holidays give me hairballs!
