But worth it.
It was time for Caramel and Bella to get their shots and checkups, so this morning at 7:30am I fought two bundles of fur, muscle, and teeth (but no bones...) and got them in their carriers, and headed to the vet to drop them off at 8am.
Caramel just got her vaccinations and the checkup. I've been worried about Bella's weight (she just seems so skinny...) and requested a blood panel and a CBC just to see if anything was out of whack. Because of her issue with the vaccinations last year, she also had to have pre-treatment with antihistamines and steroids so her immune system doesn't completely freak out and cause a vomiting, dehydreated, sad, sick kitty like last time. I left, and nearly cried. It's the first time I have EVER had to leave my cats someplace that's not home. And I was worried to death about Bella.
Yes, I was overly paranoid and they came through with flying colors. The pre-treatments worked great on Bella and they checked her temperature and kept an eye on her all day long to make sure she wasn't going to have the same issue as before. Her blood panel also showed everything was normal. Completely normal. Nothing even on the border high or low. Just normal.
Funny bits, though:
While waiting to pick them up, another customer was playing with a collar and talking about how her cat's collar had broken and the cat missed it. I commented that my cats would kill me if I tried to put a collar on them. The vet was out there talking with us and he looked at me and said "Yeah... Caramel would suffocate you in your sleep." (Mind you, I've gone to this vet all of twice...) The customer laughed and asked which one was Caramel. The vet explained that she was the calico above her cat in the back. The other customer then went "OHHH!!! Yeah... she'd claw your eyes out."
I seriously wonder what she was doing back there. It seems that people who have never met her get the uber bitchy vibe that cat puts off.
Other fun bit was that after the vet said that Bella's weight was completely normal, and so was her bloodwork, he proposed a hypothesis as to why she feels so skinny:
"Well, first you pet Caramel. And then you pet Bella. And Caramel is... *long pause*.... pudgy."
I nearly died laughing. Caramel's a little barrel of a cat. Her weight, too, is normal. She's not fat. She doesn't need to go on a diet. But she isn't skinny by any means. She's...... pudgy.
But both kitties are healthy and vaccinated again. And they forgave me within an hour of coming home. All that fun (plus some matt removal from Bella's tummy that I just haven't been able to get out myself) ran me over $400, but I love that vet, and it's worth it to be sure that my kitties are happy, healthy, and protected from diseases. *nods*
