once upon a time
not too long ago
got a flat tire
pulled to the side of the road
and what do you know
here comes sheriff joe
tightening them cuffs on my wrist
said "boy, you’ll pay for being so reckless
drinking gin and driving as fast as the wind"
i said ’o joe, i could really care less
so i picked up a fat stack of Benjamin’s
threw ’em in the air to blow away with the wind
he just watched as a crowd flocked to the scene
getting cramps in their sides
from bending down picking up the green
so many struggling to provide for a family
so much the lucky few of us take for granted
like not waiting half a month every month
for food stamps and welfare checks to arrive
like not having to decide
do i want electricity or should i eat tonight?
barely scraping by, still they survive
