YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Whoop dee doo!
Okay, for once I actually have something to report. It may not seem like a big deal to anyone else, but I think that this little piece of news is the best thing to happen to me in about a year. At least several months. I'm so fucking stoked, I don't even care if I sound like a self-congratulating asshole for posting it here! Well, I do care, just not enough to stop me. Alright, here goes nothing . . .
Two days ago, I got a letter from the President of the school inviting me to sit for the next two academic years of the committee to award the Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward Trophies. These are the two acting honors awarded to a male and a female respectively. It's a three-person committee and it's supposed be comprised of "discerning and knowledgeable theater-goers, chosen to represent as many sections of the audience as possible." I don't know if that last part means students of different years, or students, faculty, and alumni or what.
I am so incredibly excited! I actually jumped for joy! For real! And my parents were great. I mean, I know that they both have their own qualms with my theater involvement, however supportive they may be, but they were both so happy for me. My mom actually screamed over the telephone. She hasn't done that since the Nat'l Merit thing. Dad thought this was a portent that the Becca Revolution was underway. He's a little nuts, but very sweet when he puts his mind to it.
I dunno that most people would take this as seriously as I am, but I've just gone through so many ups and downs in the drama world over the last 5 or so years. Let's just say that Choate did a real number on me. I don't think I'll ever get over that, but it leaves me to appreciate these moments all the more.
