Dear Yuletide author,
First off, let me begin by saying a huge THANK YOU. You are going to write me a story and that makes you awesome by default.
Second, I know there is a lot of information in my optional details, and there will be even more in this letter, but please know I am REALLY easy-going at heart. I'm just a) a very wordy person by nature, and b) a firm believer in the "too much information is better than too little" school of fanfic exchanges. You are not under any obligation to try to squeeze all of this into whatever you write for me, or really even any of it! (Although granted, I'd prefer if you avoid my squicks. ;-) ) The prompts are just to help you along if you get stuck, or to give you a better idea what sort of things I like. If you have a brilliant idea that takes none of the information I've provided into account? Go for it! Chances are pretty darn high that I will love it regardless because it is from a fandom I love that I don't see enough fanfic for.
But if a little more information would help...here it is:
General Likes
- female characters
- love as a choice made anew every day
- equilateral poly relationships (everyone loves everyone equally)
- telepathic bonds/links, telepathic sex, telepathy in general
- time travel
- alternate universes of almost every kind (see dislikes for exceptions)
- crossovers/fusions
- friendship that blossoms into more
- any rating as long as it's clearly marked so I know what to expect *g*
General Dislikes/Squicks
- character bashing (of ANYONE, even characters I dislike)
- rape/non-con/dub-con/torture of any kind
- adultery/cheating
- incest (I know this is...complicated to avoid in Enchantment Emporium, so just, um...nothing you wouldn't see in the novel(s)? *g*)
- power imbalances in relationships (ie: teacher/student, CO/subordinate, A/B/O AUs, etc.)
- destined relationships (literally MFEO, soulmates, etc.)
- abuse/betrayal of trust (or a third party using the trust between friends/lovers against them)
- graphic description or unusual use of ANY bodily excretions
Enchantment Emporium - Tanya Huff
Characters: any
If you're up for it, I would love to see a crossover/fusion with the Oz books (not the movies for obvious "it was a dream"/"Dorothy's crazy!" "Just kidding!" reasons *g*) wherein Dorothy, Aunt(ie) Em, and--if you're familiar with him--Zeke are members of THIS Gale family. Make it a pre-series glimpse of the Gale family's past or a modern AU where Dorothy is one of Allie's cousins, either is fine.
If that doesn't strike you, I'd also love some exploration/worldbuilding with or without canon Gales and their cohorts (I love them, but I love the concept too!).
~
Tanya Huff is one of my favorite authors and I love pretty much all of the worlds she's created that I've read, but on this one I just couldn't get the idea out of my head that Dorothy from the Oz books would be a perfect fit for this family--she even has an Auntie! ;-) And I can't help but think there was at least some deliberate homage because of the fact that Allie specifically mentions there aren't any Dorothys in the family (right now?). *g* That said, I know not everyone has read past The Wizard of Oz (let alone all of the back 13 or the Famous 40 *g*) so I would not be at all disappointed if you don't feel comfortable with the crossover.
If you don't, give me a deeper exploration of the world Ms. Huff created. Expand on her version of leprechauns, or dragons. Explore how the Gale family came to be, or at least what made them who and what they are today. WERE they the result of a union between Herne and a mortal woman? And if so, what was that mortal woman like? Obviously you are welcome to include the characters from the books, but if you want to go off on a total tangent and write me something entirely populated with OCs (and/or other crossover characters), I would be okay with that too!
Haven
Characters: Jordan McKee, Dwight Hendrickson, Audrey Parker
For Jordan, I'd love something touching on the fact that Nathan *isn't* the only one who can touch her--Audrey is immune to Troubles! A S3 AU with Jordan/Nathan/Audrey would be great, or S4 Jordan falling for Lexie in spite of herself, and how would either scenario change Jordan's drive to see the Troubles ended at all costs? For a gen option, I'd also love a character study about how incredibly unfair it is how Jordan's Trouble was triggered--talk about punishing the victim! How does that contribute to the bitterness and anger we see in her?
Dwight I mostly just want gen of him being adorable, because he is ridiculously adorable. Maybe backstory with his daughter, or gen friendship with either or both of my requested ladies?
Audrey I have this wacky theory (which will probably be Jossed before you get this but oh well) that she's Pandora and her penance for releasing the Troubles onto the world in the first place was to become the embodiment of Hope for the Troubled. If that doesn't grab you, I'd be more than happy with any of the above suggestions involving her, or with any of the following pairings/groupings: Audrey/Nathan/Duke, Audrey/Nathan/Duke/Jennifer, Lexie/William, Audrey/real!Audrey.
~
Eeek. Okay, so first off, sorry the prompt for this one was so long, but if it helps? It's because this is very much an either/or scenario that I'm looking for, although if you COULD write me something involving all three, all the better. *g*
Jordan is a fascinating character to me because while she's an antagonist, she's really NOT a villain. She's someone who was dealt an incredibly unfair hand in life, and just when she had hope things were going to get better, it all fell apart. Nathan turned out to be just substituting her for Audrey. The Troubles didn't end when they were supposed to. It's no WONDER to me that she's so angry, and so determined to make the Troubles end no matter what she has to do to achieve that. So, I like to think of alternate scenarios that would give her a happier arc. *g* But I am also more than okay with an angsty little non-AU character study too.
Dwight...I don't have much to say about him except DWIGHT. I love his sincerity, his sweetness, his matter-of-fact take on the Troubles in spite of the fact that his pretty much sucks, the way he stepped up when things went to hell in a handbasket between S3 and 4...he's a genuinely GOOD guy and I'm a sucker for the loyal, lovable secondary character anyway. ;-)
And Audrey...I didn't mention this in my request, but if you wanted to write me Audrey and Olivia Dunham from Fringe and/or Jo from Eureka and/or Abbie from Sleepy Hollow commiserating together over drinks, I would not say no. *g* As for my theory...I actually came up with it fairly early into my exposure to the series (I've only started REALLY watching in the past month or so) and so far nothing has convinced me otherwise, although Friday's episode has the most potential to of anything I've seen thus far. *g* If it does get Jossed, however, I'd still be thrilled to receive it as an AU, so don't let that stop you. Otherwise, give me your backstory for her; who or what do you think Sarah/Lucy/Audrey/Lexie really is, and why are Haven's Troubles so connected to her presence or absence? I 'ship her with a ton of people, so feel free to pick and choose from any of the options I listed in my request. *g* I'd just...prefer not Nathan/Audrey by themselves, I feel like they need a third (either Jordan or Duke is fine) to balance things out even if I can't really verbalize WHY.
Flight of the Navigator
Characters: David Freeman, Carolyn McAdams
I would love to see David and Carolyn meet again in the new timeline, either as kids in 1978 or as adults in 1986. It can be gen or David/Carolyn, so long as it's age-appropriate if you go the 1978 route, and I'd prefer David tells Carolyn the truth about how he "knows" her instead of keeping it a secret. How she reacts initially doesn't matter to me, but I'd like her to believe him eventually.
If that doesn't strike your fancy, I'd love Carolyn backstory too. What was she doing in 1978? How did she get a job at NASA that gave her enough clearance to have access to David when she was still so young?
~
I rewatched this movie recently and was reminded how much I love the friendship between David and Carolyn. It also occurred to me for the first time that if David HADN'T disappeared for eight years, they would be about the same age. (SJP was 21 when she played Carolyn and David was supposed to be 20 in 1986. *g*) So, I thought David could use someone in his life that he could share his story with, and who better? And since in this timeline they would be meeting when they're either both kids or both teenagers/adults instead of David a kid and Carolyn an adult, feel free to take it romantic if the muses strikes. If it doesn't, though, I am MORE than okay with platonic BFFs too!
I also just find Carolyn very interesting in and of herself, too. We don't get to know that much about her because she's a comparatively minor character, but what we do learn is interesting. I don't remember if the movie tells us how she got the job at NASA, but if it doesn't, I'd love to know your theory! Maybe she's a genius and they're trying to recruit her? *g* Also, where was she living and what was she up to in 1978? Did she have a younger sibling that David reminded her of that made her risk so much for him? And heck, for that matter, what would've happened to her if David hadn't undone that timeline? Lose her job at least, probably, but would she face actual criminal charges for helping him? Whatever floats your boat!
Being of Two Minds
Characters: Connie Hendricks, Rudolf of Thulgaria
As crown prince, Rudy doesn't have the option to stay single, but how does his connection with Connie complicate dating? Play it for laughs or for angst, I don't care, I just think it's an interesting potential problem. I'd love for it to end with Connie/Rudy but if that's not your preference, finding another solution works for me too!
Other possibilities include anything about what happens after the end of the book. Does Connie go home and go on with her life, or does she (with or without her family) move to Thulgaria at the request of the royal family? Or does Rudy maybe choose to attend the same college in the US as Connie? Do the King and Queen choose to go public with the nature of Rudy's "condition" now that they know what it is, and if so, how do they handle convincing their people of something pretty unbelievable? What kind of a king does Rudy make when his time comes? How--if at all--does the connection between Connie and Rudy change as they move from puberty into adulthood? Anything like that or even just a slice of life from after the events of the novel.
~
I love this book and I love this author so I was thrilled to find it on the list of eligible fandoms this year! Especially since I forgot to nominate in time. ;-)
Basically on this one I just want to know what happened after the events of the book, since PFS never wrote a sequel. *g* The dating thing seemed like the most obvious hook to me, and one that would be fun to play with, but you are obviously not obligated to do it. :-) I do 'ship Connie/Rudy, but I can understand why others wouldn't, since they did more or less grow up together. So, het or gen is equally welcome. Also, I love pretty much all of the characters from the book except the ones you're not supposed to like *g* so feel free to include anyone else as background. Princess Charlotte! The King and Queen! Wolfie! Connie's poor befuddled parents! *g* Anything goes--there is NO fanfic out there for this book and I want it so much!
Ooh, and this isn't in my request, but if you wanted to write a story about OCs or characters from another fandom sharing the same kind of bond as Connie and Rudy, I would totally accept that as well... :-)
Okay, verbosity over! Here's hoping that gave you a jumping off point, but whatever you come up with I can't wait to see it! Thank you again SO MUCH for taking time out of your probably-busy schedule to write a story for me.
