My Last Dutchess
When i first read this poem i honestly had no clue what was going on other than she had died somehow. Going over it in class really helped me to undertsand the true meaning of the poem and how we can understand what it means one line at a time. I enjoyed this poem because for me it was a challenge to realy undertsand what was going on and they way its wriiten really threw me off guard. This is called My Last Dutchess becasue this is his last dutchess that will have and he will have her murdered. " That's my last dutchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive", when i first read this i just thought that the painting looked so good and real that it made her look alive. But the real meaning as that she is dead and he is saying thats his last dutchess painted on the wall looking alive even though she is dead. Robert Browning does a great job of really describing the mood and how well the poem is written is truly amazing. Lastly I've never liked poems just because i dont understand them and i can find the real meaning but i realized that if you take your time to analyze them and decode them then its really interesting what you can learn. I see poetry as an arnd im starting to appreciate this art.
