Ian and I are gradually watching our way through Snow Fairy Sugar (thanks, Jacob!) -- gradually because that much cuteness has to be taken in small doses, kinda like icewine. I am developing a fascination with Greta, who seems just like Tomoyo, except crazy.
There seem to be two kinds of anime rivalries. One is like Ayla and Jeshie in Battle Athletes. Ayla wants to do better than Jeshie, sure, but she respects Jeshie and eventually comes to see her as a friend; when Ayla's days of participating in the whole Cosmo Beauty thing are over, she transitions pretty easily, because there's more to her life than that. Mylandah and Lahrri, on the other hand... there is nothing more to Mylandah's life than wanting to destroy Lahrri. I don't think she's even aware that it's possible for there to be anything but that. So she's kinda not entirely sane.
Greta's in category 2. Every time she shows up, she's obsessing over Saga, trying to challenge Saga to some contest or other (and getting thwarted by the fairies, whom she [and everyone but Saga] can't even see, so she just has no clue what's going on). She cannot open her mouth without saying something about Saga. Ian figures she just needs a friend and has absolutely no social skills. That's fine for now, they're only thirteen, but in a few years... yikes.
Ian also figures she has a Saga shrine in her room. I can see it. Just like Tomoyo, only it's a bitter, unfulfilled Tomoyo... for now.
So is it yuri? Not yet. I don't think they know about that yet. And if they do, I don't wanna know about it. But in six or seven years, maybe.
