Looks like I'm not going to class this semester. Too many reasons that I don't care to list, but in the meantime, I'm just going to work full time until I figure out what I should do.
Working at the bookstore has proven my assumption that FIU tells it's students nothing to be rather true. Working as a cashier, I've had a disproportionate number of new students (not all freshmen either) come to me with their Panther ID cards and 400 dollars worth of textbooks already rung up and proceed to ask me "isn't my financial aid supposed to be put in this card automatically?" I honestly have no idea where they got terrible ass info from, but it's been happening to a LOT of people. Even when I'm in textbooks, I see it happen regularly.
FIU's trademark misinformation policy apparently occurs at the other campuses as well, because people from Biscayne Bay and Pines Center come to University Park to buy books for for their classes. Problem is, we only sell books for University Park: the other campuses have their own respective bookstores, and yet we still get people from other campuses coming and wondering why they can't find their books here. Here's an example of a conversation that happened way too many times for my first day in customer service:
"Hi, I'm having trouble finding my books."
"Do you have the class number, section, and professor?"
"Yes." -shows-
"Uh, I'm sorry, these are Biscayne Bay classes. We don't sell books for Biscayne Bay classes here; you're gonna have to get them at the Biscayne Bay bookstore."
"But I don't get it; this class is offered here too, so shouldn't I be able to find the book here anyway?"
"...Um, Biscayne Bay book orders are not in our system. There is no guarantee that any book you buy here is actually the one you need, because we have no way of checking to see what your professor wants here. Again, buy them at Biscayne Bay."
"Are you sure?"
"...Yes."
"Dammit, so I drove all the way down here for nothing?"
Aside from that, work has been pretty good. I got my first check a few days ago. Nothing amazing considering I didn't work very much in the first two weeks. It's been pretty chill, although that's pretty much going to end by tomorrow. It does get kind of boring, but I have my incentives and distractions. =P
On a completely unrelated note, welcome back, Aysha, and Happy B-Day again.
