Movie night
I won't write anything too specific about POTC2, because I'd hate to ruin it for anyone, so this is a very general entry, and spoiler-safe.
So yeah, last night three of my friends and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 at midnight! It was a lot of fun, going to a midnight show, because several people were dressed up as pirates, including myself (I'll jump at any excuse to wear a costume in public). I brought my disposable camera that I'd taken to the beach so that I could use the last few pictures, so we took pictures of ourselves waiting in line, with the giant Jack Sparrow display, and sitting down in the theater (they'd let us sit an hour before the show actually started, so we had some time to kill). Which was fun.
But I dunno about the movie. It lacked the charm and spontaneous humor of the first. Part of it was just that it was an obvious attempt to outdo the first. The first movie was, at least in part, initially, written to be played seriously, but Johnny Depp just got silly and wonderful. The script of the second movie was written with recycled jokes from the first. There were a few genuine laughs, but a lot of it just felt like they were trying to write to Jack Sparrow, rather than let Johnny Depp create him from scratch from an initially serious script.
It was like they tried to make everything bigger: bigger special effects, stranger characters, bigger swordfights... And only partially succeeded.
It may have partially been that I was really tired, and I just started missing things, so I plan on seeing it once more sometime this month, just to be sure that it wasn't better than I thought it was. I didn't feel like it was a total waste of my time, because I was with my friends, and we got to talk and laugh and generally have a good time...It was a fun experience, but I wish the movie had been a little better. Had I been alone, I might not have felt the same way.
After the movie, we all just fell asleep on my living room floor. So it wasn't a particularly wonderful night's sleep, either, so excuse any incoherence on my part. :-P
Oh, and just noticed this:
2nd in one of the first icon challenges I've ever attempted, at
myself_92's LJ. So that made my day good, too. :D but I really should get off the internet and go take a nap or something because I'm just getting more and more tired. Zzzz.
