Welcome to a very special Monday edition of the as-yet-unnamed movie column (OK, so it’s not that special. Who cares?) Anyway, this is a slightly truncated version of part of my weekly article, talking about the week ahead. DVD releases, TV shows to watch, movies coming out, the whole shebang. So, let’s start off with the newest DVDs, coming out tomorrow:
My pick for the week is without a doubt the First Season of a great comedy, 3rd Rock from the Sun. This show had a great run on NBC, and rightly so. If you never caught an episode of this show, I’d pick this set up anyway. This is a sure-fire hit with lots of laughs and a great cast. If only more sitcoms were like this…
Another great TV show from the past is a lesser-known show, Remington Steele, starring Mr. James Bond himself, Pierce Brosnan. Think James Bond - gadgets + female assistant, and you’ve got a general picture of the show. This was the show that brought Pierce to the eyes of the Bond creators. A show worth checking out.
Other than that, not much else. The XXX sequel is already out on DVD, as is the Kevin Costner-Joan Allen romantic comedy, “The Upside of Anger”. My recommendation? Check out the new special edition of The Jerk and go back in time when Steve Martin was still given good material.
TV this week should be interesting. FX, still going strong with “Rescue Me”, is premiering a new show Wednesday night called “Over There”, about the current U.S. activity in Iraq. This should prove interesting for two reasons: 1) There has never been a television show about a war that is currently in progress, and 2) It promises not to push a heavy political statement. So, time will tell. Again, “Over There”, FX, 10pm, Wednesday night. That’s my TV pick of the week.
New movie releases this week: “Sky High” (a variation on “The Incredibles” theme, so to speak), “Must Love Dogs” (a chick flick, so you know I’m gonna be there opening night), and “Stealth”, which is the next potential box-office winner for the week. Until next time, have a good week, and as always, feel free to discuss here.
