We are considering this
plan. I really like this plan. It is a good size, not too big, not too small. Very little closet space, but yet there is a lot of storage space built into the walls. My biggest problem with most floor plans is wasted space. This plan has very little of that.
This is a straw bale home but I think we may use the plan and adjust it to use
Quadlocks, instead. A friend of ours has 2 acres for sale. We figure if we do most of the contracting ourselves, we can build what we want on two acres for about what we would spend on a place in this neighborhood.
We also are thinking about using
Earthbags to create a fence around the property. There is already going to be a great deal of sand and dirt that is going to need to be removed from the property anyway. We may as well use it! This is another one of the projects that Devin and I could do and it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than a brick wall, which is about the only other thing that works out here with the heat.
I also would like to use
this for the interior walls. It is extremely energy efficient and the colors and textures are fantastic. No additional paint required. We just put this right over the drywall.
We are talking about stained concrete for the floor. Again...much cheaper than adding additional flooring and I think we could do this.
I also want to use some
Solatubes for natural lighting.
I doubt this will happen anytime soon, but I am going to be working towards this goal.
