Oh, yay! I am So Glad there is a sequel!

This quote completely grabbed me. I think it is the heart of this chapter: Almost nothing-and really Tim couldn’t even think without qualifiers because as soon as he started with absolutes a more extreme example would materialize-could twist the knife of his new reality more than Kon attempting to open his door without waiting for permission. These people didn’t understand him at all. Didn’t see his most fundamental…Of course he had added extra security features to his door.

This is Tim alone amid a bunch of people who can fry him to ashes or throw him through a wall or just sort of blink and see him naked with x-ray eyes. These are people who, b/c they are this way, are conversely perfectly open and honest with each other. They are definitely aliens in every way, and even though they are perfectly nice people, they don't understand Tim and hurt him just by being themselves. Tim is very brave there at the end. I hope the super-family appreciates it.

Btw, this reminded me of another of my favorite quotes, from "Close To Home", by iesika: "I'm not judging Tim as a person. I know things work differently in Gotham. Bruce and Tim, even Dick, they need lies just to function, to be able to do what they do. People have to believe that they're something other than they are, all day, all night, all the time, or they would almost certainly be killed. I've known Bruce for a long time, Kon, and I know how exhausting that is, but for them it's second nature. They can't look through a wall or listen from the stratosphere and then take down a gang in one fell swoop - they have to infiltrate, place listening devices, spend months tracking trade manifests and crime patterns, and then they act. And...they hardly ever ask for help."
