Summary: The secret is out.
Back at the house, the entire group was in the common room talking about their new situation. With another comrade to rely on, they needed to establish guidelines. Taemin and Key thought of Jonghyun as an honest man and welcomed him. A fellow Korean in Mallepa was all they could rely on. Minho and Jinki on the other hand felt suspicious of his motives. Why had he taken such an interest in Key? Was he an accomplice sent to eliminate him? Key did have a lot of information that many people didn't want getting out.
"What did you say your name was?" Jinki asked. He was secretly looking him up on the database.
"Kim Jonghyun. My family was murdered by these idiots we just obliterated! We were the last Korean family in that district." Jonghyun
held his head down.
As Jinki scanned over any possible records, he asked more questions. "Some luck you have to pick the same night as us to invade their camp."
Jonghyun caught on to his interviewing style. "It is. Honestly I thought I was going there to die. I didn't think I'd stand much of a chance against them all."
"Then why did you go?" Minho asked.
".... I.... don't know. Blind anger with the intent of revenge I suppose." Jonghyun was being honest.
Jinki could find nothing except a birth certificate on Jonghyun. He nodded to Minho to indicate his innocence.
"Seems we may have misjudged you. I'm sure you understand why we have to be so careful." Minho apologized.
"I do. But I know nothing about any of you. Can we share?" Jonghyun put his feet up on the table. Minho gave him a scolding look.
"Actually Minho," Key gave him a leery look. "Jonghyun brought something up to me that I thought was interesting."
"Like what?"
"I'll be blunt. You look too young. How old should you be now? In your 40s? You don't look a day over 25." Key waited for a good answer.
Taemin looked to Minho to see how he would react. Are you going to tell them!?
Minho took in a big breath. "You're clever, Jonghyun. We really could use you around here." Jonghyun put his fist up to show his allegiance.
"You didn't answer my question." Key became impatient.
"You didn't ask a question." Minho was purely stalling.
"Yes, it was 'how old should you be now'?" Key tapped his foot.
Minho looked at Taemin as if to say I have no choice. "I'm not sure anymore. Two-hundred fifty? Two-hundred sixty?" He answered honestly.
"Excuse me?" Key wasn't expecting that. Jinki and Jonghyun also gave him a confused look. "Two-hundred fifty. You're two-hundred and fifty
years old, Minho?" Key waited for a legitimate answer.
"Minho, what do you mean?" Jinki became concerned. Had he lost his mind?
"I'm immortal." Minho said it as if it were another everyday saying.
The three stared at him. "Did you hit your head?" Key shouted.
"Key, I know the secret." Taemin piped up. "He's telling the truth." He could not make a more serious face.
Jonghyun started flailing his hands. "Back up, back up. Who are you?"
"I am a vampire. A blood-sucking, sunlight-avoiding, unaging vampire."
"Taemin, you knew?" Jinki looked to his little brother.
"Yes, I learned about ten years ago. Forgive me for keeping secrets." He bowed his head but cuddled to Minho's side.
Key had gone pale. "It all makes sense now." He recalled every unexplainable incident since their lives started together. "Minho, I never see you drink blood. How do you survive?"
"I get by." Minho folded his arms.
"I need a fucking drink myself." Jonghyun sat back and held his face.
"I'm not going to feed on any of you, if that's what you're asking. I have strong morals against that. That's why I took you three under my wing as children. I didn't want you to find yourself in my situation." Minho explained.
Taemin was fine with keeping their drinking experiments a secret between him and Minho, especially since he wanted to do more in the future.
Key was on the verge of tears. "I... don't know what to say. Do you suffer? I feel guilty for not knowing earlier."
"Why? I didn't want to burden your lives. I figured you would have noticed something someday, though." Minho kneeled in front of Key and held his hands. "Please don't blame yourself. And I don't suffer. I have a great family."
Key's blue eyes penetrated Minho. He looked at him with such worry and distress. "Minho, please continue protecting us."
"I always will." Minho smiled and brought Key closer for a hug.
"Do you sleep?" Jinki asked curiously.
Minho went back to Taemin's side. "No. Well, I can close my eyes and lay down for eight or so hours, but I don't fall asleep."
"Taemin, you knew about this the whole time and managed to keep it a secret from us?" Key criticized him.
"I'm sorry hyung. I wanted to protect him." Taemin wouldn't make eye contact.
"From what? What could we possibly do?" Jinki asked rhetorically.
"Guys, don't give him a hard time. It's obvious that they're lovers and they're just keeping each other safe." Jonghyun unknowingly dropped a mental bomb on everyone.
Taemin choked on his own saliva and coughed. "What did you say!?"
"Am I wrong?" Jonghyun looked to the other boys' faces to study their reactions. Once he noticed that everyone else was stunned, he slumped back slowly. "Oooohhh, I guess not."
"You really have a big mouth don't you!?" Minho pointed to Jonghyun. The latter laughed nervously and held up his hands.
"Is this true, Taemin?" Key was about to faint; too many surprises in one night.
"So what if it is!?" Taemin was acting brave now. "Is that wrong!?"
"That's not what I said." Key stood. "Are you a vampire too, then?"
Taemin clenched his fist. "No, Minho and I agreed not to do that." He didn't feel like explaining the years of discussion about it.
"This changes nothing." Minho tried to calm the group down.
"Hell if it does, you're with my little brother. Keep your hands to yourself." Jinki demanded of Minho.
Minho stood and widened his shoulders, intimidating him. "Are you implying that I would hurt him?"
Jinki looked over his aggressive stance and backed off. "I suppose not."
"Hyung, he'd never hurt me. I know that." Taemin stood to defend Minho. "Please don't let this change your view of us."
Key nodded. "You're right. Minho has taken care of us for over ten years. Why would he hurt us now?"
"You have a point." Jinki sat back down. "Sorry, Minho."
"It's understandable. Anyone would react to something like this in a defensive way." Minho had experienced the same situation before.
"How did... it happen?" Key asked quietly.
"Get comfortable, it's a long story."
The night went on and on with the group sharing heartfelt life stories and secrets. Jonghyun told nearly every detail of his life to his new brothers and their bond sealed quickly. With a newfound appreciation for each other's unique skills, their brotherhood was made invincible. As the sun rose, they fell asleep together, sharing each other's bodies in their slumber. Even Minho felt as if he was dreaming.
Nothing could ever tear them apart now. Nothing. Ever.
