1. Tori Amos' Night of Hunters is available for streaming, in its entirety, on npr.org:

A song cycle based on familiar pieces by composers including Satie, Chopin, Schubert and Bach, Night of Hunters tells a multidimensional tale of a couple torn asunder and a woman's search to find unity within herself. The story is animated by characters and motifs that any Amos fan will recognize as characteristic: a shapeshifter; ancient poets, battling in a ring of trees; a Star Whisperer; a Fire Muse. It's told within a chamber-music setting that allows Amos to show off her classical chops in collaboration with outstanding collaborators, including the Apollon Musagete string quartet and clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer.

It's no From The Choirgirl Hotel, but it's very listenable.

2. Saw Moneyball for the second time last night. The first time, I went with rickenbacker, who is a huge baseball fan and early 00s A's fan. Last night I saw it with johnnybvo, who tolerates baseball because he likes me, but is not a huge fan. rickenbacker liked the movie, and so did johnnybvo, who thought it was "a solid B". He also could not figure out why rickenbacker hates Billy Beane: "He's a fucking superhero!" ;)

For my part, I think the film's okay. I saw it twice to confirm or revise my initial "eh" reaction. I enjoyed most of the dialogue/repartee (the Sorkin touches are clear to the ear) and Pitt and Hill have good chemistry/timing, but at the end of the day, I think I wanted to see a different movie. I loved the stuff with Hatteberg, and wanted more of that mixed in with Billy and the Brand character working the system. In fact, I probably really wanted to see one hour of Billy and Wash recruiting parts and another hour of Billy and Brand working the phones and playing other GMs against each other. It didn't help that the film teased me with a shot of Agent Aaron in the trailer, and then criminally underused him. And how do you do a movie about the golden era A's and not credit HMZ for any of the team's success?

(Am I the only one that wanted a title card that explained what became of Oakland's soda machine situation three years later?)

Btw, one thing I've noticed with Gofobo that might help some of you with getting passes - it seems that TPTB routinely release extra passes on the day of a screening. So if you were hoping to get tickets to a free showing, but the passes were all taken, try back on the day of.

3. I wish the human race was this amazing all the time: Good Samaritans lift burning car to free man trapped underneath.
