I don't know why Bri laughs about the fact that Huston Street was an English major.

Street takes off the gloves as hitter
PITTSBURGH -- Rockies closer Huston Street was an odd sight in the 12th inning on Friday, standing at the plate with a bat but without batting gloves.

Street, in his second career at-bat, drove a pitch to right-center that Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen ran down with ease. Still, it was a nice at-bat from a player clearly not used to having a bat in his bare hands.

Not only does Street not own batting gloves, but he didn't use them when he hit more regularly.

"I never used them when I was a kid," Street said. "When I went to college, I hit for a little bit, and my teammates made fun of me because I'd only wear one batting glove. I did that almost to appease them, because everybody told me I should be wearing batting gloves. But I hit so poorly in college, I feel I should have worn no batting gloves.

"They have to make a difference over the long haul of the season. But I'm not a hitter, so I'm not going to worry about it."

Street threw 27 pitches in three innings on Friday, just a third of an inning shy of his career high. Manager Jim Tracy said Street would not be available on Saturday because of his workload on Friday.
