~ At the risk of sounding reactionary - I really don't like the new rule requiring the use of the DH in the All Star Game, regardless of where the game is being played. Yes, kids, even if the game is played in an NL park, both teams will have to use the DH. That is some sacrilegious shit. I just can't wrap my head around it. Whatever argument you would make for how this "improves" the midsummer classic, why wouldn't that same argument apply to the World Series? Cause gee, those games kinda count too. Or, I don't know, THE ENTIRE NATIONAL LEAGUE SEASON? Ugh.

La Russa's quoted here as saying, "I think it's a great idea....You go through a lot of needless scorecard work if you're in the National League. Unnecessary."

Like that's anything new for the National League? Last time I checked, needless scorecard work was the National League's whole thing.

God, I'm so irritated. This is on some Livejournal/SixApart-type bullshit >:[ And boo to the Players Association for ratifying that shit. Keep this up, MLB, and I am packing my sports fandom bags and moving to...Dreamwidth Canada MLS or something.

The other rule changes seem eminently reasonable - expand the roster by one, allow re-entry by one player in the event of injury to another, starting pitchers can't participate if they pitched on Sunday, etc - so I'm not sure why everyone decided to take a hit of crack before discussing the DH proposal.

~ Didn't watch, so of course James Richard joined the win parade with a quality start. Six innings, 87 pitches, 3ER. In light of how things have been going, I think it merits a yay, but I'm still too nervous to book plane tickets to Milwaukee for June :X

mlb: victoria, mlb: things that are wrong
