An early AM meme snurched from dreamon_dreamer: From 2000 to 2010...

1) How old were you?
THEN: 18 years old and 9 months
NOW: 28 years old and 9 months

2) Where did you go to school?
THEN: Brown University
NOW: I'm not in school any more, much to my chagrin. The baggage of school loans sucks, but I really enjoyed school. Even law school. For the most part.

3) Where did you work?
THEN: During the school year, I did work study with University Food Services. I was a student supervisor in the prep area of the Ratty kitchen, and a student worker in the Bakeshop as well as occasionally in Catering Prep. (I feel like working in the college cafeteria gets a bad wrap in pop culture, but I really loved it, for the record. The cooks and the bakers, and the catering guys were all really great guys. The hours were sometimes kind of crazy, but I got paid a decent wage and I adored my co-workers; they gave me a place to de-stress and made the shifts fly by.)
NOW: Small general practice law firm in the suburbs of Baltimore, MD. Oh, and for the record, I just got my first in-court win in a case that involved opposing counsel! (To date, I've been handling mostly cases where the other side is unrepresented.) Getting a court to rule in my favor when there's an attorney on the other side arguing against my position? Way more satisfying.

4) Where did you live?
THEN: In a double on campus. Poland House in Keeney Quad, if memory serves.
NOW: A two bedroom apartment in picturesque (not really) Odenton, MD. The big plus side of Odenton is that it is fairly equidistant to the three area metropolises - Annapolis, Baltimore, and DC. The most exciting thing happening in Odenton proper is that the abandoned Japanese place and Dunkin Donuts that used to be up the road have been torn down and a Royal Farms gas station is coming soon. Yay for Red Box and cheap cappuccinos within walking distance of our apartment complex. Except we'll be moving in 6.5 months, so we'll probably miss out.

5) How was your hair style?
THEN: I wore hijab in college, so my hair didn't have much style, lol. I'd just shampoo it (way too much, in retrospect), condition it, throw it in a pony tail, and then loosely wrap a scarf over my head.
NOW: I have shoulder length natural medium-to-tight corkscrew curls that I most often wear in a loose "wash 'n' go" style. I occasionally pull my hair back in a loose ponytail. I flat-iron my hair about twice a year.

6) Did you wear contacts?
THEN: Nyet.
NOW: Nyet.

7) Did you wear glasses?
THEN: Yes.
NOW: Yes.

8) Who were your best friends?
THEN: If we're defining "best" friends as those I not only spoke with often but actually shared things with, it would have been johnnybvo, schnaucl, Xe (I think? I might not have met Xe until sophomore year), Sooz, Stace, Angie, and Joanne.
NOW: johnnybvo, rickenbacker, my brother.

9) Which of your pets were still alive?
THEN: I didn't have any pets as a child or in college.
NOW: Um, if I didn't have any pets then, I would think the comparative part of this question can't be answered. But I might get in trouble if I don't mention my girlfriend has a dog and a cat that live with us.

10) Who was your celebrity crush?
THEN: Oh, who can even remember that many crushes ago? That may have been the year when Mike Mussina, Garth Brooks, Buster Olney, and Harrison Ford took a backseat to JC of 'Nsync. Wait, does a fictional character count? Cause if so, then it was probably Sam Seaborn of The West Wing. Cyn, Kenneth, what's the answer to this question? You guys would know, you had to hear about it.
NOW: I've grown increasingly fickle in my old age, so my crushes are fleeting, changing like the weather. For right now, I am pretty enamored of Lin-Manuel Miranda, the writer/composer/lyricist behind In The Heights. The show has its weaknesses, but it's a lot of fun, and Lin-Manuel seems like a super creative yet down to earth person. His enthusiasm for his craft is infectious and really endearing.

11) How many piercings did you have?
THEN: 2, one in each earlobe.
NOW: 2, one in each earlobe.

12) How many tattoos did you have?
THEN: None.
NOW: None.

13) What was your favorite band/singer?
THEN: Garth Brooks and 'Nsync. I may have also been listening to a lot of Savage Garden, I'm not gonna lie.
NOW: I still consider Garth my favorite singer overall, but I'm a lot less focused on musical artists in general now. My exposure to music is much more by way of individual tracks from various artists, and I don't really spend so much time listening to multiple songs by the same person, or off the same album.

14) Had you smoked a cigarette?
THEN: No.
NOW: No.

15) Had you gotten drunk?
THEN: No.
NOW: No.

16) What did you want to be when you grew up?
THEN: Back in 2000, on days that I actually knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, I wanted to be a speechwriter or working in PR for a major league baseball team.
NOW: Free of my student loans and car loan, how's that for an aspiration.

17) Looking back, are you where you wanted to be in 2010?
Well, I have failed to find a way to get paid exorbitantly to travel the world with johnnybvo and eat good food, and I still have student loan debt so in that respect, I am not where I wanted to be 10 years down the line. But I'm not homeless, bankrupt, stuck in a loveless/regretful marriage, or a huge disappointment to my family (um, at least not yet, or at least not as far as I know), so in that respect, I've met some of my personal goals.

rl: personal, memes: that are not entirely obnoxious
