Fringe: Didn't love it, but I'm inclined to give it another two Tuesday nights, at least. I'm not sold on the female lead.
Movies: Haven't been to the movies in what feels like forever, but in the comfort of my living room, I watched Capote and The Memory-Keeper's Daughter last week. Capote was interesting, and I really liked what there was of a score (it's a very quiet movie). I had no idea Harper Lee and Truman Capote had a history! Kinda fascinating. I knew going in the focus of the movie would be on Capote, but still, I was a little surprised that we see so little of the trial. Still, interesting flick.
The Memory-Keeper's Daughter is based on a book of the same title that I must have picked up and put back down in libraries in three different counties in the last year. It's one of those stories about how one person's decision can have a ripple effect. It's a Lifetime movie starring Emily Watson and Dermot Mulroney. Watson is pretty good, Mulroney is meh, as per usual. It's just okay but I watched it all of the way through, while not doing anything else, so I suppose that says something for it. I think I found it watchable because of the intriguing basic premise, more than any great writing or acting. I was curious to see how everything would play out, in the end.
I also watched TDK (while in Pittsburgh) and just never really got into it. I find I just can't bring myself to care very much about Bale's Batman. Ah well. Win some, lose some, with comic book movies.
Rewatched Donnie Darko OnDemand as well. That was prolly viewing number five or six for me, and I still don't really "get" that movie, helpful Salon articles and all. Despite that fact, I like to watch it, so go fig. If nothing else, I always notice something new with every viewing. This time, it's that SchoolBully/Thug #2, the one who throws Gretchen to the ground? Totally Seth Rogan from Knocked Up. So random.
Dan Johnson
had a hell of a Tuesday. It would be great if he could stay up with the Rays to finish out this season.
And speaking of former A's, Zito struck out the side TWICE yesterday (oh Arizona, you are such a sorry bunch), to end the day with 9Ks in 6 innings (he got a ND). I think it's safe to say that at 9-16 right now, he's going to avoid the 20 loss season. **golf claps** And just because I haven't posted a Zito quote in a long time, I'd like to leave you with this:
"I've learned a lot of stuff this year," Zito said. "Sometimes it takes a lot of pain, a lot of struggling, to make you stronger. I'm motivated to stay within myself and not worry so much about results."
(Except to say, didn't he start off in spring training trying to stay within himself and not worry so much about results? Z, you're like a walking hamster wheel.)
