I really didn't like movies one or two, though they closely followed the story. They were just so souless. But movie 3 rocked, so I'm going in to this one with good expectations.
I was the same way. I saw the first film, and I was soooooooooooo underwhelmed. So long, so dry.... I actually never bothered with the second film when it came out, despite the presence of Kenneth Branagh, and I adooooore Kenneth Branagh. Then I heard Cuarón was directing the third film, and he directed A Little Princess which is one of my favorite movies EVER, so I went to see the third film with a friend. And finally, finally feel into the whole HP fandom. And it's funny, because so many fans bash the third film, but it's definitely my favorite of all of them.
The only thing I'm worried about is that I'll be in the theatre with some crazed Ron/Hermione shipper who will make mean comments, and then I'll have to stand up for my ship, and then it'll be a rumble... (actually, that would be funny)
AHAHAHA. That would be me. I'll be the one yelling "That's RIGHT! CANON, BITCHES!" and starting a brawl :-P
Are you going at midnight?
Completely against my better judgment...yes. Thank God for Red Bull and Diet Coke because I'm gonna have to pull an all-nighter on my rough draft ^_~
Don't even bother renting the second one, although it must be said that KB was fabulous, and the guy who played Riddle was kinda hot. And even though the third film didn't stick to the story as much, I liked that it assumed you read the books and didn't need things explained to you.
And then I, as a devoted H/Hr shipper for the past six years, would have to jump you.
Good luck staying awake! Just don't OD on the Red Bull (I've never had it. What's it taste like?)

Heh, I own all the films now, after Alfonso converted me, I read all the books and went back and rewatched the first film and then watched the second. I was still underwhelmed, and I agree the second film was still awfully eh, but having read the books, it was a little more fun to watch :-P

I think that's a big part of how it finally drew me into the fandom, actually ^_^ Because when it was over I had so many questions and my friend who was a big HP fan tried to explain stuff to me, but ultimately, I had to read the book for myself. And I enjoyed it enough to finally go back and tackle the first two books and films :-P

**laughs** It was funny for me, being so new to the fandom, because my friends tried to explain H/Hr shippers to me and I was just like "...but I don't get it. She's clearly into Ron. And he's into her. Where does Harry come into this equation?" Which is just kinda amusing to me, since I've never ever been one to let canon limit who I've shipped. And besides, that Kloves guy? Totally a H/Hr shipper apparently :-P

Hee. Yeah, I started shipping Harry/Hermione when I was in fourth grade, 'cause it was a lot more canon in the first book than Ron/Hermione was. I was into HP before it was big (I bought Book 2 the day it came out. No lines. It was cool), so there wasn't much to go on other than H/Hr then, and I was so used to it I didn't see R/Hr. I still like it because I've never been one for UST couples, and I always thought there was lotsa subtle H/Hr and one big R/Hr thing per book.
Um, rancid apple juice, essentially :-P
Yum!
Have fun at the movie tonight! I'm off to see the school play ("Dick Barton, Special Agent of the BBC") which I don't really want to see, but my best friend is stage manager so I have no choice. Post about the movie tomorrow (or maybe I'll see you walking around CW and talk to you then)
