I have DVDs!

I am now the proud owner of the S2 SPN DVDs AND the S1 Heroes DVDs! Other than S1 SPN, I’ve never owned a boxed set of a TV show in my life.

I finished my spn_remix fic and sent it off last night, so that was a relief. I’ve also started my spn_fairytales fic-I think I’m about 700 words in. It’s a John/Mary fic, which is a first for me, but it’s more gen than ( Read more... )

For the most part, I prefer one character's POV, just because I am a huge fan of the possibilities that that presents -- unreliable narration = ♥ -- but in some fics I think it works fine to have more than one character's POV. I just want there to be some reason why having just one character's POV wouldn't work as well as using more than one character's POV.

I am currently trying to decide what to do in a long fic--I want to try it with one POV, but there are a few details that I'll have to cut early on for it to work, and I haven't figured out how that should happen.

I've also recently read some pro-fic that has shifting POV (at chapter breaks, etc.) and it worked in those particular books, but you know, they were professionals and pulled it off. ;D

Hmm. How important are these details to the plot? And is there any other way you could present them -- like, in dialogue further down the line?

They actually feel pretty crucial to the set-up of the plot, BUT, once that early scene is done, then it could become a one person POV. And it doesn't seem like one little tiny scene is enough to continue with shifting POV.

I'm thinking I'll cut the scenes, and make it one person POV, and try the dialogue revelations later on in the fic.

I'd thought about that before, but this is very helpful--it's making me motivated to actually try it. :D :D :D

I find that I tend to enjoy one person POV more, but there are some huge exceptions to that as well. So it really depends on the fic. What does drive me batty though is changing POV within one paragraph. The sections need to be clearly marked with a break of some sort and I need to be convinced of the validity for the chance. lol.

Well, I've done it now, I've cut all the opening scenes with multiple POV. Whew. And yeah, I get dizzy when that happens too. I read a pro-fic not too long ago where the POV shifted during the paragraph! And I was like, um... I thought that wasn't supposed to happen, at least not from one sentence to the next! I really didn't know who was thinking what at that point, lol! :D

Usually, I try to stick to one POV. It's easier for the reader to follow and I consider it better style. But I guess there are exceptions where it doesn't work otherwise. Like, some time ago, I wrote a J2 bank robbery AU and I needed to switch between Jensen's and Jared's POV to make it work. So I told one scene from Jared's POV and the next from Jensen's. I guess it depends a lot on the fic you're writing but generally I'd try to stick to one POV. An absolute no-go is changing POVs during one paragraph or, even worse, sentence. But you know that. *g* Good luck with your fic.

You're continuing that fun Jensen/Chris AU? \o/ See, I wanted to bid on you on Sweet Charity but by the time I made it to the computer to bid, it was 3 minutes before the end of the auction and the server already crashed - so I couldn't. But whoever won you is awesome because I would have requested exactly the same thing! Yay!

I've decided to stick to one POV for this new fic I'm working on. I am just going to have to cut the opening scene and go from there. I switched with my Harlequin, much like you did with your J2 bank robbery, so I'm ready to try something different now. And yeah with the POV switching mid-sentence--I saw that in a pro-fic book not too long ago, and I was like, WTF!?! LOL.

Thanks for the good luck--I'll need it, lol.

And yep, I'm continuing the Jensen/Chris AU. It will be at least 2,000 words, maybe more! I'm really excited about it, and I'm glad you'll be able to enjoy it too. :D :D :D

OMG, you have bought the Heroes S1 DVD?! Whooooooooooo! *runs in circles*

As for your poll: Hmmm, usually I prefer it when authors stick to one POV but I have also read fics where the POV change was done very well and it actually added to the fic to see/hear/know what was going on in the other character's head. So I guess, it depends on the author and fic for me.

That wasn't very helpful, wasn't it?

Heee, I'm still bouncing that you are now finally able to catch up with Heroes! Ignore me spazzing over here. ;D

YES. I was really tired of having to piece them together, a clip here, a borrowed DVD there, a rental, etc. You get the picture. So I went to Target and just bit the bullet! So yay!

No, it was helpful. I switched POV's during scene changes for my long Harlequin fic, but now I want to try something else. Wish me luck! ;D
