This video was a conceptional and an editing experiment for me. I am not going to explain too much, but ...
"It's just a Dream" was a conceptional and an editing experiment for me. I am not going to explain too much, but in contrast to my other vids so far, I have to say something this time. I wanted to create a dreamlike atmosphere, so it's best if you take it as it is and use your imagination. I am playing with visual metaphors and analogies.
The title is "It's just a dream" and it deals with the Shanshu Prophecy. I knew from the start that plot wise there isn't much to tell. There is the scroll, it's finding and then the losing of it again, but that's mainly it. So the scenes I put in here are more about Angel's inner thoughts and feelings about it. His hope to be human again and his wish to undo things from his past that are haunting him. And - not to forget - there is a little tribute to the character of Wesley (Alexis Denisof).
The video came out darker than I expected. Not only because of the obvious greyish coloring but also regarding my storytelling. But then again: the prophecy never came true because Angel gave it up by his own will. I remember how my heart dropped when right in the beginning of the final episode of ANGEL he signed his *pesky future away*. No happy endings in the WhedonVerse!
Playing with reverse motion and frame speed is obviously influenced by the original video for the song ONLY YOU by Portishead directed by Chris Cunningham.
The editing process was definitely very challenging and it took a long time, but I learned a lot, and that's very important for me, always to try something new and becoming familiar with my editing software. This and all the great feedback from you makes up for the time I am putting in to this. (As my boyfriend says: *You're going to be a vampire yourself, if you keep on sitting in front of your computer the whole weekend, instead of going out into the sunlight!* He has a point ;))
