I used to have this certain image of writers and philosophers. With everything they knew, everything they taught, I didn't consider them as human beings. Before I got interested in watching documentaries about Shakespeare or Voltaire, I saw them as intellectual, practical, robotic. I used to think they were perfectly contained, that their intelligence was innate. I used to think they were focused solely on knowledge and its pursuit. I never knew Voltaire was imprisoned, or made love with numerous actresses as he basked in his fame. The possibility that Shakespeare was a fraud never even occurred to me.
I don't know, I guess I just wanted to share this thought as I'm reading about Voltaire...out of boredom. Heh.
