Whenever I try to explain to people what it is about Bones that I’ve come to miss over the past couple of years, I feel like I fall short. Today I found something that does a far better job of explaining what I want back than I ever could. Check out this vid and see if you agree.

What a lovely, long, thoughtful comment. You've always been so much better at the analysis side of things than I am.

There's a distinct lack of urgency and longing and connection.

The lack of longing I sort of understand. Maybe the lack of urgency, too.

A lack of HOLDING ON to each other, a lack of depth in their feelings and expression of same.

This, though. This I totally agree with. There's no connection. They might as well be two strangers who happen to live in the same house and work together on a regular basis. In some ways it's almost creepy.

Emily used to just reduce me to mush with her eyes and the pain and self-denial behind them. And that's...missing.

What I don't get, is why is it missing? Is it by HH and company's choice? Or by hers? Is the rumor that it ties back to DB's philandering true? Or was there some kind of bizarre creative decision behind it?

Now, Brennan has gotten a lot less desperate and lost...but that urgency for the victims, and to keep things from falling apart, and to be her brash self...it's missing.

She has gotten less desperate and lost. Which makes sense if she and Booth truly have something special between them. But we've seen the lack of desperation without the corresponding emotional support from him. And they do both seem very cold and distant as regards the victims. She used to care so much about each and every one of them, and now she doesn't. Again. Why?

And Booth has remained steady, steadfast, but still is as secretive. And even so, that gravity of the importance of the situation and the victims and HER...there is not that weight behind it.

I don't know that I'd agree that he's secretive. He's got walls up, though, as if he doesn't quite trust that this family of his isn't all going to fall apart. And maybe that's deliberate. Maybe he doesn't quite trust it. I can't say I'd blame him if that was true.

It's an absence of passion--sexual, emotional, interpersonal--that was SUCH the core of them as individuals and, then, in a magnified way, together.

I'd agree with this. In spades. Their relationship is flat. And boring. It's as if HH is deliberately writing them to prove the so-called Moonlighting curse rather than to disprove it.

I agree that the cases during s7 were awful. With rare exception, nobody, cast or audience, cared about the victims, and it showed.

And LOOK AT EACH OTHER...especially into each other's eyes, and HOLD that. And hold each other.

Yes. Yes, please.

*braces for the crash. Prays for a miracle.*
