Chapter 1 Epidemic

Chapter 1- Epidemic. (F POV)
My life has been a constant string of disappointments, and tragedies ...
If you put it lightly that is,
It's Christmas eve, and I'm 19 years old. I'm supposed to be in some nice collage dorm getting dressed up, wrapping presents... heading over to my parents house for dinner...
the sad thing is...it was really close to being that way.
When I was 5 years old, I was the happiest little thing you'd ever lay your eyes on
I was a spoiled, only child with about 500 presents under the tree all to myself, the best parents imaginable, overbearing but in an 'I love you so goddamn much' Grandparents, that pinched your cheeks and ruffled your hair....
everything would've been so perfect...
but, 3 days after Christmas my mother had a miscarried at 5 months.
The event was so traumatic that she was confined to her bed
At only 5, I watched my mother stop eating, and cry non-stop for days at a time
she was wasting away
She would scream "Madeline" at the top of her lungs, and whenever I would try to console her
she would push me away.
My dad and grandparents stopped loving me.
My dad once told me "If you were enough, we never would've even tried."
I start to tear up... and cry again, just like that poor little boy used to.
...
She ended up in the Glenview Asylum. when I was 15
after her 3rd suicide attempt.
10 years of misery and guilt around every corner
followed by another 4 years of living with a man who was supposed to love me
but didn't.
for my 19th birthday, my father gave me 2000$ and a bus token.
I packed up my guitar, a couple of outfits and a picture of the family I can't even remember having...
And I headed for New York
a place where there's so many people
I will never be seen by the same person twice.
Complete anonymousness.
Complete invisibility.
I will never hurt anyone ever again.
