Elton John, Alkaline Trio and a Tattoo

Oh tonight was very wonderful, it made up for last night and this early afternoon. Last night I stayed up until 4am finishing a philosophy project and studying for an exam I had today. BUT today I got to one of my favorite bands. ALKALINE TRIO. Dan went to the concert with me. I can always count on him to go to a show with me since none of my friends at MSU really like the same music as me, but him. We got into Grand Rapids and chilled with vinylgoddess , shastopher and skatemech. It was good to see skatemech again, I hadn't seen him in a while. Listen to their band practice for a bit, had dinner and then headed to the show. The one man asian show of Mike Park was very interesting. He sang and showed a video behind him as well, it was very political and I enjoyed it a lot. We missed Colossal. That is ok because they came out for a song with Mike Park and they were just ok. Dan thinks the drummer had the nicest sounding drumset ever....or it was just miced well :-) Alkaline Trio played some oldies but goodies and then some of their new songs coming out on their new cd. The new cd sounds like it will be a lot like GOod Mourning or even softer. It will be a change for the boys. They rocked out very well. I like the engery they bring to a live show. The show also helped conclude that I am in love with Dan's vocals. He has one of my favorite singing voices ever...oh the love I have for his voice. I could listen to it all day. Someone bring his voice to me :-) They did their typcial I am a cool band so I am going to leave the stage and come back on for an encore. If I was in a band on stage, I would just say eh you know what I am going to do so I will see you in a minute or two. Or I would walk off the stage, wait for the cheering to come back, walk across the stage as a tease and then come back out a minute later. Yes that is only IF I was a rockstar though. I guess I need to work on the rockstar part first haha.

This past Sunday I also got to see Elton John. That man is truely amazing. I don't think I have enjoyed myself sitting down at a concert as much as I enjoyed him. He has a gospel choir up there, a drumset, keyboards, tymphani drums, bass, guitar and of coarse the piano. He just did his thing he does so well. He made Rocket Man into a 10 minute song and it was a very good drawn out. Sometime you just want a song to end, but not with that song. He also played a lot of songs from Peachtree Road that I am not familar with, but they were still good. He also played oldies like Tiny Dancer, Benni and the Jets, Your Song, Levon, THe Bitch is Back, etc. I got a shirt. I have always wanted an Elton John shirt and I finally got one! It is vintage looking so it is even better. I heart Elton John!!!!

Also I have been waiting for the picture from Melissa, but when I went to visit Melissa at SIU a couple weekends ago we got matching tattoos on our foot. It is just something really simple. I wanted my first one to be simple so I could get used to the feeling, etc. I am already designing my next one that I want to get for my birthday.

PS Shasta I will try and post the party pics tomorrow (aka later today since that is when you will read this)
