Anyone need a part-time employee, by any chance?

I want a job. And not really because I want some extra cash (though who in their right mind would say no), but because I want something to do outside of History.

I mean, I like History, don't get me wrong. It's fun and not too difficult, and definitely interesting and as far as degrees go, I could be doing something much, much worse. And I get to do this absolutely amazing year-long exchange transfer thing, which is fantastic (come on, who ever thought I would end up studying in America?). Thing is, though, I don't want to be doing History for the rest of my life. My dad thinks I'm going to go into teaching or (in his perfect world) research or lecturing. And no, being a historian wouldn't be all bad -- I mean, I'd be around people who think that speaking Latin and having an interest in Old and Middle Welsh isn't weird, which would be quite nice. I just can't see myself holed up in a dusty library for my entire career, and even if I only ever did sort of consultant archaeology and wasn't actually on my hands and knees digging around in a hole, shoring up in a tent for months or years at a time really isn't my cup of tea either. I'm definitely a city bird, me. I'm sure (hell, I know) that history and archaeology are noble and worthwhile ways to spend your life, just... not me, thanks.

I really want to get into design. Or music, but design is marginally more likely. My friends back home reckoned I was quite good at designing tattoos -- there are two lads wandering around Cardiff right now with my artwork nailed into their skin, friends of mine, and I designed my own two as well -- and I've always thought it would be seventeen separate shades of epic to learn how to ink people. And it's not like I'm squeamish, I'm pretty sure I could handle it.

Getting a part-time job in a piercing and tattoo studio would actually be just about my ideal, really. I mean, I think I'd like to finish my degree (mostly in case nothing else works out -- if I finish this I'll always have the backup of doing a PGCE and teaching History. At least my dad would be happy), but if I could find something part-timey somewhere... if I could maybe man the reception and eventually start helping design custom, and maybe someday learn how to pierce and ink things myself... that would be unreal. And then I could still do music on the side. You never know, I might find people to set up a classic rock group with (and by that I mean the East Village Opera Company, not Queen). Or not. But I suppose you never know.

So how does one get a job in a tattoo studio? I have this student visa which allows for part-time work, so that's not too big a worry. I suppose all I can do is print off a few CVs and go and ask. And hope I don't come back with a new hole, either ripped or pierced...
