We did it!! The show was brilliant. I actually managed to pull off a double bass (my God) and it actually worked. I'm quite pleased with myself. The rest of the group were amazing, especially Val, considering he's had a bad arm and all. And I never would have thought I'd like the idea of a zoot suit, but we all looked surprisingly good. I'm so pleased with how it all came off. I haven't had much of a chance to talk to Val since, but we're probably going to catch up at some point -- I especially want to know what he thought worked and what didn't, so we can work on it for next time. Back to rehearsals pretty soon, I would think, although I'm sure Val mentioned going down to New Orleans at some point in the near future, so it might all go on hold for a while, but as far as I'm concerned we're definitely on for something in the future. :D
In other news, my mam's been on the phone to me more than usual in the run-up to Christmas. This is the first year ever that I won't have been home for the holidays, so she's understandably a bit upset. We did decide it's too much expense and fuss to fly back for anything less than three weeks, though, so... there's not a lot I can do.
Honestly, I'm not sure I feel about it all. On the one hand I'm excited about being this far away from home, but God knows I do get hellish homesick, and I think Christmas Day itself is going to be especially hard. That said -- this is New bloody York; there's going to be something on somewhere. I'm not going to sit around and get miserable about this; I'm going to go out and enjoy myself, one way or another. It might be a fairly odd Christmas, but I'm determined that it won't be a bad one.
Must send Christmas cards (oh God I've probably already missed the last post for the UK, bugger bugger), get presents for people I know over here, maybe try and find out what my flatmates are doing over Christmas (probably going home, if they've any sense)... and then the mundane stuff like the washing up and going down the the laundry room and so on and so on.
Oh, and my mam's transferred me the money for an electric cello! So I'll be sorting one of those out in the next few days. Bit nervous about going from acoustic to electric, but I'm always good for a challenge.
