Japan Expo... 2/07/2010

So this year I was kind of... not ready at all for the convention. I was so much into finishing off my cosplay on time, and into preparing other stuff too (busy busy June), that I didn't really plan in advance what I wanted to see. As a result, I missed a few things... (such as Kanon Wakeshima or Aya Kanno ><) Oh well. There are days like that...

This year we celebrate the 30 years of carrier of Tsukasa Hôjô. Seems we can even see some of the pics taken by him in Paris, here.
There was a big, nice booth at the con displaying his best illustrations, tributes from other well-known mangakas and a guestbook where I wrote a word, of course (big fan of him here!). I tempted to win the right to get an autograph from sensei, tried 3 times with the help of friends but lost each time *sigh* (it's a system of draw, you put your hand in a box and grab one of the tickets inside, crossing fingers to get a "win" one). While queuing I noticed nobody was at the Yuko Shimizu line anymore, so I quickly went there to try my luck. And I won. ^^ So now, I have a lil signature on a "Rebecca Bonbon" shikishi, the new mascot of the creator of Hello Kitty... Hmmmkay, once you're used to see her head, this little doggy could almost be cute, if you try hard.

As I attended the con only one day this year (totally unorganized, I told you, I didn't book a hotel and train tickets), I didn't get the time to gather more signatures, nor to spend too much money (that's for the good point). I bought a couple of handmade, really pretty jewels, Japanese toe separating socks (do they even have a name?), a short black/red gothic dress and a Tezuka t-shirt with the cute Unico on the front. Got also one of the doujin artbooks from Aurore, and that's about it (she's the talented drawer of Japan Expo posters, who also released the comics Pixie and Elinor Jones). Oh yea, and I ate some gyoza and takoyaki right before leaving, yummmmy!!

One thing I I had planned was to cosplay this year, but 2 reasons prevented me from doing so. Urgh, first one is that it wasn't totally finished so it was a bit of a shame (boo no comment -_-). The second one is that it was definitely too hot to wear it. Something like above 30°C (87°F). So I have no regrets, I wouldn't have bore the wig, makeup and cloak. I guess I'll have to find another con to wear it. You can have a glimpse of the WIP here, pics were taken a couple of days before the con. It's supposed to be Xecty's uniform from Shining Wind (bottom part is missing).
