And I hope someone will post the Johnny's Countdown so I can get to watch it sometime soon! x)
“Juri, Juri, slow down! Stop pulling me, you’re hurting my arm!” Taiga complained jokingly, unable to resist a slight smile curving at his lips.
“Sorry, Taiga! But we’ve got to hurry! The movie’s going to start soon!” Juri called back cheerfully, barely loosening his grasp.
Taiga rolled his eyes, but followed Juri’s running footsteps nevertheless, the pounding of their feet becoming heavier and heavier with every passing second. “What movie are we even watching?” He asked Juri as they finally reached the front doors of the theater.
Panting, Juri only shot Taiga a bright grin before pushing open the door.
“If you don’t tell me…” Taiga warned, squeezing Juri’s fingers in his hand as a means of a playful threat, but Juri only took the opportunity to grab Taiga’s hand into his own. Taiga blinked twice, realizing Juri had intertwined their fingers.
Juri laughed. “Does it really matter? You’re coming anyway!” He continued walking ahead, pulling Taiga along. As a gentle silence soon fell between them, Juri turned to look back at Taiga and realized Taiga was staring, eyes wide with his cheeks tinged pink, at their hands, still connected.
“O-Oh, sorry,” Juri stammered as he withdrew his hand. The loss of contact made Taiga blush an even brighter red, stumbling backward just a little.
“Taiga, are you okay? Your face looks flushed,” Juri inquired curiously, not understanding what was wrong.
“I- I’m fine! It’s just that all the running is getting to me,” Taiga denied as he made up an excuse, not daring to look into Juri’s eyes.
“I’m sorry, Taiga…” Juri whispered, slowing down finally as they approached the auditorium. He glanced to Taiga for a response, but Taiga waved him off with a smile.
“If this movie isn’t absolutely amazing, I’m never coming to the movies with you again!” Taiga joked with a slight pout, nudging Juri softly with his elbow.
Juri smiled broadly once more, “Fine, fine, but I’m sure you’ll love it!” he insisted as he led Taiga inside.
As the darkness of the auditorium engulfed them, Taiga smiled back, doubting Juri would be right. He was still rather annoyed at having been dragged out of his house early Saturday morning to go watch a unknown movie with Juri, but since he was here, since he couldn’t refuse… Taiga decided he might as well try to have a little fun messing with Juri and getting a little revenge.
Just a little.
Taiga smiled to himself, settling down in his seat beside Juri as he formulated his plan. As soon as the previews had ended and the actual movie began, Taiga closed his eyes and let his head droop downward, pretending to have fallen asleep. With a slight inward giggle, he wondered how long it would take for Juri to notice, and how annoyed Juri would get.
Within two minutes, Taiga could hear Juri sigh beside him, poking Taiga’s hand to test if he was really asleep. Taiga didn’t move. He was about to burst out in laughter when suddenly he felt a strong hand reach in front of him, pushing him to lean his head on Juri’s shoulder.
Taiga’s heart pounded in his ears. Juri wants me to lean on him? He asked himself in disbelief, not knowing what to think. He tried pulling away slightly, while still managing to act like he was asleep, but Juri soon rested his head on Taiga’s, preventing him from moving.
Taiga was too surprised to protest. He could feel the warmth of Juri’s cheek pressing into his hair from above, and he could hear the sound of his friend’s gentle, soft breaths.
I should stop pretending…
Taiga told himself, but he couldn’t.
In the darkness behind his closed eyes, Taiga suddenly felt Juri’s fingers graze against his cheek, triggering a flutter in Taiga’s clenching heart. A wave of pink shadowed his cheeks. Taiga was too shy to open his eyes.
Then,
Softness.
Juri’s lips brushed against his.
Taiga’s eyes blinked open rapidly, widening in disbelief, unable to process what was happening. Juri’s lips were kissing him. He felt Juri’s thumb rubbing circles in his cheek, now burning red with flush. It felt as if the world around them was melting away. Nothing else existed. No one else mattered. A guilty voice in the back of Taiga’s mind told him he had to pull back.
Taiga told himself, but he couldn’t.
W-Why…
With a sudden jerk, Taiga recovered his senses, pushing Juri away, his cheeks still blushing madly. Desperate to avoid causing a scene, Taiga shook his head furiously, his gaze brimming with concern, staring straight into Juri’s eyes without speaking a word. But he couldn’t help his gaze from faltering.
Juri bit his lip, realizing he had gone too far. In an instant, before Taiga could refuse, Juri grabbed onto Taiga’s hand in the darkness. “I’m sorry,” he murmured faintly.
Taiga lowered his gaze, his eyes fixated on their hands, connected once more. Juri’s hand tightened around his, warm and gentle. He leaned forward and whispered another soft apology before Taiga cut him off, asking, “Why?”
It was all he could manage to say. Not “No,” not “Stop,” not “Go away,” but “Why?” Why wasn’t Taiga angry? Why hadn’t Taiga immediately pulled away? Why had he kissed him? He wanted Juri to answer.
This time, it was Juri who shook his head. Shamefully? No. It was more out of unwillingness. He didn’t want to say why.
Taiga sighed, but he was unable to release the tightness that was gripping his chest. He needed to know what was going on in Juri’s mind. And why couldn’t his heart stop pounding?
With a deep breath, Taiga tried to pull his hand out of Juri’s grasp. But Juri only held on even tighter, protective, possessive. “Don’t,” Juri breathed, pulling Taiga in close so that he could whisper in his ear. “I just… I couldn’t help it. Seeing you asleep… You looked too beautiful…”
Taiga abruptly pulled away, surprise evident in his eyes. He shook his head to clear his thoughts. Juri just had to be kidding. It was all a joke. This couldn’t be real… could it?
“S-Shut up, Juri,” he sighed again, and with a sharp tug, he forcibly pulled his hand away. “If you’re just going to make fun of me…” Don’t do this to my heart… please…
“I-I’m not!” Juri insisted, his voice raising. Taiga immediately put a slender finger to Juri’s lips, stopping him from drawing the attention of the people sitting near them. As soon as he had done so, Taiga regretted it. He was now touching Juri’s lips. So soft, so familiar. He could feel his cheeks reddening once more.
“J-Juri,” he mumbled, his eyes averting his friend’s worried gaze. He couldn’t find the strength in himself to move his finger away. He felt Juri’s lips curving into a smile under his touch.
Slowly, Juri reached upward and took Taiga’s hands back into his own. “I’m not making fun of you,” he murmured, shaking his head softly, his eyes lost in Taiga’s.
“I-I…” Taiga couldn’t finish his words.
“You don’t know?” Juri asked gently. Under the soft glow of the movie’s projection, Taiga could see Juri’s smile widening. His heart skipped a beat.
Without a warning, Juri leaned forward once again, wrapping his arms around Taiga’s neck. “I really think you’re beautiful,” he whispered, his lips pressing gently onto Taiga’s cheek.
