The stage play “Red Cliff -Ai-” starring AKIRA (29) from popular music group EXILE opened on August 8th at the Le Theatre in Ginza. The play is a work inspired by the film “Red Cliff,” which was directed by John Woo and based on the “Battle of the Red Cliffs” recorded in China’s “Annals of the Three Kingdoms.”
AKIRA, who stars as the State of Wu General Zhou Yu, was enthusiastic about the opening day and stated, “We can deliver the best play because of the absolute trust and strong bonds born from our team work.”
“Gekidan EXILE W-IMPACT ‘Red Cliff’” will develop the drama of the same play in 2 theaters. AKIRA’s version depicts the “the evanescence of burning love in a world of war,” and the film version’s heroine Lin Chi-ling stars as the pregnant wife of Zhou Yu while Takenaka Naoto stars as the King of Wei, Cao Cao, who is ambushed by the joint forces of the Wu and Shu states. Moreover, regarding directing capabilities of actor Kishitani Goro, AKIRA said with absolute trust that “His mentality towards himself is very calm.”
“Red Cliff -Ai-” will be performed until August 31st. In contrast, for the same play, “Red Cliff -Sen-,” which is “a picture scroll that stirs up the ambitions of men,” stars MAKIDAI in the role of Cao Cao. The play will be performed from Saturday August 13th to August 24th at the Aoyama Theater in Tokyo.
