A few days later, Shou was still wondering about the meaning behind that wink. He was on his way to the studio, lost in his thoughts as he walked the familiar path to the building. Although he was still wondering about Saga and Kazuki’s unknown conversation, most of his thoughts were focused on Hiroto. He had always thought about the little guitarist quite often, but after his conversation with Saga, Hiroto seemed to be all the vocalist could focus on.
Soon, Shou found himself at the studio. As he walked in he was greeted warmly by the others. Shou smiled in reply and immediately went to set up his microphone. As he was unwinding the cord from around the mike, Hiroto bounced up to him.
“Shou-kun! Shou-kun!” the smaller man exclaimed with a bright smile. “I wrote a new song! And I wrote all of the music! I didn’t write the lyrics or the melody but I wrote all the drums and bass and guitars!”
Shou smiled fondly at the other, amused at how Hiroto couldn’t stand still because he was so ecstatic. “That’s great, Hiroppon!”
“I thought we could start practice off with Pon’s song, Shou-kun,” Nao called from behind his drum set. “Since he gave us all the sheet music we just need to get the performing down right. So while we play you better start thinking of lyrics!”
“Of course Nao-san,” Shou laughed as he put his microphone in its place on the stand. He moved over to one of the armchairs as the others prepared to play the song.
Soon enough Nao began to tap his drumsticks together over his head. After three hits, the song started. Shou leaned back and observed the others, letting the music flow through him. It was a rock song for sure; crunching guitars, pounding drums, strong bass. Nao, Saga, and Tora were focused on the sheets of music, determined not to mess up, while Hiroto was playing completely from memory. Shou couldn’t help but to watch the small guitarist intently. Hiroto played the song strongly, his movements dramatic, but not overly so. It was easy to tell that he had put a lot of time into making this song perfect, and that made a flash of determination run through the vocalist. He needed to write the best lyrics he’s ever written for this song.
All too soon, the song ended, the sounds still ringing through the ears of the band. Just as the last notes faded out, all five men were startled from a round of applause that filled the silent room. The band had been so focused on the music, they had failed to notice Kazuki enter the studio.
“Kazuki-san! What a surprise to see you here again so soon!” Nao commented as he stood up, moving to greet the other man. “How long have you been here?”
“I came in just as you were starting the song,” Kazuki smiled. “And Saga-san invited me to come back today. I’ve been wanting to sit in on practices of other bands, just to see what they’re like. Hopefully it will end up helping myself and my band grown more,” he continued, bowing his head slightly.
“That’s a good idea,” Nao murmured thoughfully. “Well, please, make yourself comfortable! I guess we’ll actually be starting practice now that we’ve run through that song.”
“Was that new?” Kazuki asked. “I thought it was amazing, who wrote it?”
“I did!” Hiroto said, beaming at the other. “Did you really like it?”
“Yes! It was great! I can’t wait to hear it with the vocals.”
“Well, that might take awhile, since that was the first time we played it,” Saga laughed. “But we’ll make sure you’re one of the first to hear it when we get it recorded, Kazuki-kun.”
“Awesome!” the SCREW guitarist commented as he walked over to where Shou was still sitting. “Good luck with your writing Shou-san,” Kazuki said to the vocalist as he took a seat on the couch.
“Thanks, Kazuki-san,” Shou replied as he stood up to take his place behind the microphone. The actual band practice starting not long after.
Three hours later, the room drifted off into complete silence once again. And, once again, the silence was broken by Kazuki.
“That was amazing! It’s like I just got my own private concert!” he commented.
“Well you better appreciate it,” Tora replied jokingly, shaking a finger at the other. “Not everyone is special enough to get an opportunity like this.”
“I’ll treasure the memory of this night for the rest of my life, Tora-sama,” Kazuki replied bowing lowly at the other, trying to keep his face fixed in a mask of seriousness like Tora was.
“Damn straight,” Tora replied, finally breaking out into a wide smile and laughing lightly.
“Ah, Hiroto-san?” Kazuki asked tentatively. “Would you mind teaching me that scratching technique you were doing? I’ve been trying to learn for myself, but I just can’t get it right.”
“Of course!” Hiroto replied happily. “You don’t have your guitar with you, do you? Hm, we can go get one of my old guitars from the storage room,” he murmured thoughtfully, placing a finger over his lips. “Come on!” he exclaimed as he moved to a door that was near the sitting area. The opened door revealed a long hallway.
Kazuki followed the shorter man through the door, but not before looking back at Saga and giving him a discreet thumbs up. Saga smirked, their plan was going along just fine. Now all Saga had to do was distract the others while Kazuki kept Hiroto distracted with guitar talk.
An hour later, Shou seemed to finally notice that Hiroto and Kazuki had been gone for quite some time. “Hey, guys?” he started. “Should we go check on Hiroppon and Kazuki-san? They’ve been gone for awhile...”
“Ah! It’s already been an hour!” Nao exclaimed, suddenly jumping up from his seat. “You three can go check up on them, I need to get going! I promised my mother that I would meet her for dinner tonight!” The drummer quickly gathered all of his things and threw a quick goodbye to the others as he rushed out the door.
“I think I’m going to get going too,” Tora commented as he stretched his arms over his head. “I want to practice that song Pon wrote.” And soon the tall man was also leaving the studio.
Saga practically shouted in glee, this was working out even better than he could have hoped. The bassist looked over at Shou, trying to keep from showing how happy he was. “Well, let’s go check on them now!” he stated as he jumped up and walked down the hall. Shou followed closely, he was a bit nervous, afraid that Hiroto had been with Kazuki so long because he had a crush on the other guitarist. Shou didn’t know what he would find as he walked into the room.
Saga pushed open the door to the storage room, revealing an old drum set, and a few spare basses and guitars that the members had accumulated over the years. Hiroto and Kazuki were over on the far side of the room, messing with two of Hiroto’s old Gibsons. “Hey, you two!” Saga spoke up. “You’ve been back here for over an hour now!”
“Have we really?” Hiroto asked, looking surprised. “I guess we got side-tracked. I didn’t remember how many instruments we actually kept back here!”
“You could open up your own music store with all of this!” Kazuki piped up, placing the guitar he had been holding back in its stand and moving over to where Shou and Saga were standing. “But we’ve been back here for an hour? I should probably get going then. Jin-chan wanted us to have some ‘band bonding’ time tonight so I don’t want to show up late.”
“That sounds like fun,” Saga commented. “Here, I’ll walk you to the door, don’t want you to get lost!”
“I appreciate your kindness Saga-sama. Without your help I’m sure I would have found myself completely lost as I walked down this straight hallway,” Kazuki replied over-dramatically.
Saga bowed and swept his arm toward the door. “This way, my fair maiden!” he proclaimed, causing Kazuki to lightly swat at him for the maiden comment as he walked out the door.
Shou and Hiroto were too preoccupied trying to make it seem like they weren’t watching the other and, therefore, did not notice the two leave. They also didn’t notice the lock click on the door after it had been closed.
“Well, I guess we should get going too, Shou-kun,” Hiroto commented as he put away the guitar that he was holding.
“Ah, yeah. I guess we should,” Shou replied moving toward the door, frowning slightly when he saw that it was closed. He moved his hand to the doorknob, twisting it as he pushed on the door, but the door did not open. Shou blinked in confusion before jiggling the doorknob a few more times.
“Shou-kun?”
“Um, Pon. I think the door’s locked.”
“What?” Hiroto quickly walked over to the door, trying to force it open but to no avail. He turned to the vocalist confused. “But the door only locks from the outside. Sagacchi and Kazuki-san knew we were in here, so why would they lock us in?”
Shou frowned in thought. “I don’t know,” he replied slowly. “Do you have your phone with you? We could just call him and get him to come let us out, he couldn’t have gone far by now.”
“No, I left it with my stuff. And I’m guessing you left yours in there too since you’re asking.”
Shou gave a small, apologetic smile to the other.
“Well, maybe they haven’t left yet,” Hiroto said and then started hitting his fist against the door, hoping that someone was still there to hear it.
Shou vaguely registered the noise that the younger man was causing. His mind busy trying to figure out why Saga had been so careless when he knew the door locked from the outside. After about five minutes of hitting on the door, Hiroto stopped and turned around, slumping against the door, a small pout forming on his lips.
Then it hit Shou.
Saga locked them in here on purpose.
Saga knew Shou had a crush on Hiroto.
Saga and Kazuki had set them up.
Hiroto looked up at Shou and noticed his facial expression was twisted up in shock. “Shou-kun? What’s wrong?” Hiroto asked, concerned.
Shou’s head snapped over to the other at the question. He realized that his shock must have shown on his face and answered Hiroto’s question. “I know why they locked us in here.”
“You do?” Hiroto exclaimed. “Well, tell me why!”
“Because of this,” Shou replied as he stepped up to the smaller man.
He grabbed the other’s jaw with one hand and braced his other on the door next to Hiroto’s head. Then, titling Hiroto’s chin up slightly, he crashed his lips to the other man’s. Hiroto started in shock, before finally realizing what was happening. Shou was just about to pull away from the unresponsive man when Hiroto’s arms wound themselves around his shoulders and pulled him in closer. Hiroto opened his mouth slightly, his tongue sliding against Shou’s lips, trying to deepen the kiss. And then the two were locked in a passionate kiss, tongues dueling with each other, bodies pressed together as close as possible.
Neither man knew how long the kiss lasted, but they found themselves having to pull away from each other eventually. The need for air becoming too strong. Shou leaned his forehead against Hiroto’s shoulder, breathing in the scent of the other’s cologne. Both men’s thoughts were racing, amazed at what was happening. Hiroto opened his eyes and looked down at Shou.
“Shou-kun?” the young guitarist whispered softly.
“Yes?”
“Did that... mean anything to you?”
“Of course it did, Pon. I’ve had a crush on you for the longest time.”
“Good, cause I have too.”
And then Hiroto caught Shou’s lips in another breathtaking kiss.
