[Life] Where/What/Why I'm working

Jan 30, 2007 09:14

Busy busy busy! I know many of you have been trying to get in contact with me, and it's been very difficult. Well, you know me-- I've taken on a bajillion projects and I'm stuck working on all of them at the same time. I thought I'd share some pictures of where I've been spending my time, so you can at least see what you've been missing out on ;)

Basically I created an environment in which the main user is supposed to dance. The dancer will hold one IR transmitter in each hand, and depending on the hand movements while dancing, the lighting will change. Hand motions going up and down will spin some lights with gear gobos on a wall so it looks like the gears are spinning together. Proximity between hands determines the speed of the spinning gears on the floor, and the brightness of one of the spotlights with what I call 'marigold and chrysanthemum gobo'. Some lights are stationary, while others follow you, or move randomly. For those of you unfamiliar with the term gobo, check out this easy to understand wiki article. Ever paid attention to the lighting at RedJacket? They pretty much have the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they were using the same model of lights, even. Those MAC2000 lights are amazing. Pan and tilt range of 540°/267°. How much does each one cost? Can be around $10,000. The 250's are less powerful and are probably only a couple thousand each. It's really a lot of fun to work with this set up, especially with the lighting environment I designed with the computers.
