Notes: looking for excuses to write my OTP. ide /hides/ oh, unbetaed.
It is summer.
One boy could be seen grumbling in his room, close to ripping his hair out with a pile of books and papers scattered in front of him.
“I’ll never get this done in time,” he says to no one in particular.
Serves you right for not doing your assignments earlier, that little voice inside his head seems to saying; complete with a smug face that he thinks looks kind of like Yamada. He’s seeing little Yamada on top of his Math workbook suddenly.
“I’m losing my mind,” he says again, letting his head hit the table (it doesn’t hurt, because his books cushioned his head). He thinks the heat is getting to him. A few moments later, he can hear someone talking.
“Hello?” he looks around and he can’t see anyone else in the room, unless Shintaro is playing some kind of a prank on him but he’s sleeping in the next room.
So he ignores it and continues to contemplate on ditching his homework and sleep.
“Hello? Ryuu?” there goes that voice again.
He’s a little freaked by now. “Who’s that?” he says to the room.
“Ryuu? Why’d you call me?” Oh.
Ryutaro digs underneath his pile of homework and fishes out his phone, that he didn’t realise was open underneath his stuff. Probably he accidentally pushed the ‘call’ button when he was drowning in self-pity earlier.
“Gomen, Keito,” he says finally.
“Eh?”
“I accidentally called you,” it’s not really something he’s proud of even if it sounds ordinary for anyone to accidentally call their friends (or in his case; that special someone).
“It’s okay,” Ryutaro can hear him chuckling, and he’s a little thankful that Keito doesn’t ask how he even managed to accidentally call him.
Silence falls over them until Keito starts talking again, “by the way,” he pauses as if hesitating about something, “do you want to get some ice-cream?”
Did he hear correct? Looking at his still far from done homework, it’s obvious what he should do.
//
It’s summer, blazing hot and he’s running to the meeting place.
He’s a little out of breath by the time he gets there. Well, he stopped and walked instead when he almost arrived there. From afar, he can see Keito waiting for him.
So he runs again.
“Sorry, am I late?” he asks, still a little out of breath, using his legs for support.
“You’re on time actually,” Keito replies, looking at his watch. “Come on.”
Keito drags the younger to an ice-cream parlour nearby. The shop is small and has a few chairs inside lining the bar. They’re still holding hands when they went in and Ryutaro doesn’t think Keito realises it and he can feel his face heating up.
So he tries to pry himself free from Keito grasp only to have the other tighten his grip on him.
Well, that went well.
“So, what flavour would you like?” Keito asks. Oh, they’re at the counter already.
“Chocolate,” he says, but it came out more like ‘chklet’ because he’s still trying to force down the blush that’s slowly creeping up. More surprisingly, Keito understands what he said.
When they’ve already ordered and about to pay, Ryutaro realises he forgot his wallet at home.
Feeling guilty, he turns to Keito only to see his ice-cream in front of him.
“Too close!”
“Sorry. Here,” Keito hands him his ice-cream and starts on his own.
“Ano, I didn’t bring any money,” he says.
“I’ve already paid for it; my treat.”
“I’ll pay you back later,” he insists. This feels too much like a date to him.
“It’s my treat, you don’t have to pay me back later,” Keito’s being persistent too.
He pouts in return and eats his ice-cream. He doesn’t like the feeling that he owes someone and he still thinks this feels too much like a date.
Which he wants really, but Keito can’t be thinking the same.
He eats his ice-cream while thinking of the possibility of Keito ever liking him like that and slowly he’s licking air instead of his ice-cream.
“Ryuu.” Keito notices he’s zoning out.
“Ryuu,” he says a little louder. Ryutaro is still in his little world.
Feeling a little irritated, Keito comes close to Ryutaro’s ear and whispers, “Ryuu-cha~n.” This works, because the younger jumps back with eyes wide.
In the process, his ice-cream meets the linoleum floor.
Both of them look at the melting chocolate ice-cream on the floor. Ryutaro looks at Keito and back at his ice-cream. And his stomach chooses that moment to make noises.
Now he’s blushing, due to embarrassment and Keito simply laughs and orders him another cone.
“I’ll pay you back for this one?” he says, while devouring his ice-cream (because it’s hot today and he’s hungry).
Keito doesn’t reply, but he comes closer to him. “You’re messy,” he says, referring to Ryutaro’s face being covered in ice-cream. Putting his hand on Ryutaro’s shoulder and licks the smeared ice-cream from the corner of Ryutaro’s mouth before finally capturing the younger boy’s lips.
“So, do you want some more?”
//
It’s already evening but two boys can still be seen eating ice-cream at the sidewalk.
“You never did tell me how did you managed to accidentally call me,” Keito asks between licks of his ice-cream.
“I- it was underneath some books when I did my homework,” it’s not really a lie. The truth just sounds silly.
“Eh~ so you have me on speed dial?” he’s just making an assumption, but seeing Ryutaro starts to eat his ice-cream faster, he thinks it’s right.
“Kawaii~” Keito can’t help saying and moves closer to Ryutaro.
“Shut up,” Ryutaro retorts back, hiding his blushing face.
