“I don’t love you.”
He says it with such affirmation that he might just believe it himself.
The other simply nods.
“Well, have a nice life.”
He gets a strained smile out of the taller boy and it hurts. He tells himself it’s for the best and continues to ignore the throbbing in his chest.
“You too.”
He’s the first one to walk away between the two. Step by step, he wills his legs to move and forces himself not to look back because he knows he won’t be able to handle it if he does.
When he feels he has walked far enough, he stops to gather himself and wipes off the tears that fell a minute after he left.
Then, his phone sings out a cheery tune.
“Hello? Mariya-chan?”

Summary: distractions, just tonight.
Word count: 234 words
It’s night time. The stop lights are flickering at the junction and people are littering the streets. He looks at his surroundings and sees everything blurs together in one big ball of lights.
He sees girls still in their school uniform giggling as they walk past him and he can’t find it in him to care when they point at him and whisper among them.
Ignore them. They’re not worth it.
He does and walks a little faster forward.
Not knowing where he’s going he takes a turn to every junction he comes across. He doesn’t care. He could get lost in this city and he wouldn’t care if it makes the news the next day.
It wouldn’t make a difference anyway.
After a while, his phone rings.
It rings with that all too familiar ring tone he sets for him.
He presses ‘reject’ and keeps walking.
It rings again and the cycle continues until he mutes it and ignores the vibrations it causes.
The traffic on the streets seems to have lessened and he finds himself in front of a vending machine that he hates. He still inserts the coin in and a box falls out.
Maybe it’ll be the distraction he needs. Just for tonight.
The phone still vibrates in his pocket in a rhythm that he hums to as a puff escapes his lips and the world seems to have vanished.
