"Kanata, tsunagaru sora e" (To the sky that connects to you, in the distance)

Well, tonight, I'll be talking about the new songs that I composed.
The images of the songs, and the themes of the lyrics.
"Kanata, tsunagaru sora e"
The theme of the song is a "melody call".
The song that you hear when you call someone, and it plays until the receiver picks up your call.
Here's an example.
Years ago, you were attached to someone, and there was this song that would always play whenever you called.
A song that played whenever you wanted to listen to that person's voice and called him up.
Some time has passed since you broke up with that person,
and there would be times when you would suddenly hear that song playing along the streets,
or when it's played at you in a shop, or when it's being used as the background music for something.
At those times, surely,
thoughts of that person would come floating into your mind, and you would think
"Back then, I used to listen to this almost everyday. I wonder how things are going for him now."
Whenever you were waiting for him. Or before you went to bed.
A song that you always heard whenever you called.
At the end, no matter how many times you called,
all you could hear was the looping melody call, but you never got to hear his voice.
"It's been years since all that has passed, but I wonder if I was what I am now, would I have been able to say anything back then"
you start to feel, as you reflect on a romance that had long ended.
Thinking about it, you start to realise that it's not just "I really liked him"
but also "Even now, I like him".
…and with such a story in mind, I wrote this song.
The sky is just something really common,
and it gives you the feeling that regardless of time and age, you are still connected.
A sound that accidentally catches your ears in an instant,
bringing back memories, and connecting your thoughts to that person far away in the distance.

"0010101.0"
Firstly, regarding the meaning of the title.
The reason for making the title a string of numbers that makes one unsure of how to read it,
is because by changing words into the 0s and 1s of the binary code,
even if there was meaning in it, it becomes unreadable.
Before this there were the songs "0010" and "0010101",
both which were songs with the theme of "personality".
"In a scene like visual-kei where bands with all sorts of styles are grouped together,
how does one stand out as a band with personality"
was the thought that spurred these compositions.
I believe that the answer to this varies from person to person,
and also from era to era.
『0010』 The time when I first had to compose in order for the band to continue on.
『0010101』 The time when we made our major debut and our circumstances changed.
『0010101.0』 And then, now, where the four of us have begun our activities.
If I have to forcibly come up with an answer now, it might just be "Having a substitute won't work".
For that reason we've drawn out all four of our personalities,
and I feel that AYABIE, the band that has made all that into one,
is a band with personality.
Taking our current circumstances as a starting point, I added the 0 numbering to the title.
The 0 that we are at, in order to take our next step.
That is to say, this is a song in which we're facing ourselves and asking,
what is personality? and then answering it in the same song.
What I'll be talking about is a little different from the lyrics.
Our generation was told to stretch out this thing called "personality"
through the process of education.
Being told things like "There's only one you in the whole world" or "number one" or
"the only one" or "individuality".
I felt a sense of strange insecurity towards phrases like "You're fine the way you are".
"It's important to live an individualistic life"
Even if someone were to tell me that, I didn't feel like this was a realistic sort of problem.
I don't know how exactly to explain this, but.
A phrase you said to give yourself a sense of security.
That's what it felt like to me.
Indeed, those are words that gives oneself a sense of affirmation.
But it felt like it didn't help solve anything.
It sounded like "It's okay even if you don't do anything";
words that acted as a barrier against all that hard work that one would have put in.
I wanted to take out this moment, where one's vision narrows and darkens,
and turn it into sound.
Within myself, I still don't have an answer as to what would be a better sort of thing to say.
With the completion of this song, it's up to the listener to interpret and conclude.
If there's anyone who can dispute my ideas, I would be happy to know.
That's the point of setting this theme, isn't it.
As for the sound of the song itself,
the direction of the song during the recording,
and also the structure of the song itself, was something through which I wanted to present the unpredictability of a "chaotic" progression,
and so I purposely planned sudden, aggressive sections in the song.
The tone of the song also changes accordingly throughout.
Actually, there are five layers of vocal tracks,
and they take turns surfacing as the main, as if struggling in your mind,
before coming to a resolution towards the end.
It links the aggressive sections to the last section which has a more emotional message.
If you can feel the link between the words and the flow of the music, it will make me glad.
I'm afraid this got a little long.
With this I conclude my talk on "Kanata, tsunagaru sora e" and "0010101.0",
two songs with very different ideas.
While I have presented my image of the songs to all of you,
I hope that everyone can interpret them freely as you wish.
What's most important,
is what you can experience from them and what you might empathise with.
Together with "Melody", I hope everyone can listen lots to these three songs☆
T/N: Sorry that I can't translate all the entries - these are just so that everyone can understand the meaning behind the two songs better! The translations of the song lyrics are already up on
snow_parade :)
