SCIENCE!

SO COOL. Scientists built a 17 mile long proton collider and they had their first successful test this evening. Its an attempt to study dark matter and the Higgs Boson particle, and potentially recreate the Big Bang on a smaller, measurable scale. Critics were theorizing that it could potentially create a black hole that would eat the Earth. Obviously this didn't happen - but they also didn't have a "significant" particle collision. This was just a test to make sure that the opposing proton beams actually fired.

Read the article here. That way, if you do get sucked into a black hole, at least you will know why (^_^)

Watch the BBC video clip if you can - the physicists actually composed a rap to spur interest in the project! It's at the very end.

School note: I wonder how I could rig up two paintball guns to fire at each other, with the pellets colliding in mid air and scattering multicolored particle debris all over. It would be a great way to start a discussion on the Big Bang theory!
