OK, I don't normally do surveyish things. I don't like them. They're just one step down from posting quiz results. But here's one that I think has some validity. I've been so dodgy with updates lately, especially updates about anything tangible. So this survey seems like a quick, effective, and most importantly, downright lazy way for me to ( Read more... )

Probably for the first time since early 2004. I feel dirty.

I think it depends. Something like this has a use and people may read it. But those huuuuge 150 question things where you give one-word answers?

I'm going to be the one idiot who picks out a minuscule detail out of that whole thing:

You have zebrafish?

Assuming zebrafish are the same fish as zebra danios, I plan on getting some of those. How big of a tank do you keep your school of six in?

Heh. Yep, that's them. I surprisingly enough can't find anything to actually measure the tank, and asking a guy who's legally blind with no depth perception to guess measurements brings the lulz but no accuracy. So take my guess of 35cm long, 20cm wide, and 30cm high with a grain of salt!

Those are some odd dimensions... is it around a 5-gallon? (I may be acting really dense here; I have no idea what units of measurement you use and/or are familiar with). I think 5 gallons is around 19 liters...

Oh, I've not even the faintest clue of what it might be in terms of litres, nor a basis to have even a wild stab in the dark guess! I think I tossed out all the documentation and stuff about my tank ...

I know what you mean about not accepting that your grandpa's gone. Pepa, my grandfather on my mother's side, just passed recently, and it's still so strange. I was there--my uncle found him in his bed, and we spent the whole day there taking care of everything for my grandmother--but I came back to BG soon after the funeral, and being away from everything just makes it seem like a dream. Memories pop up all the time. Is it the same for you?

Ah, I ramble. My mind jumps all over the place right after a run, sorry.

Yeah, when you're not there, it just doesn't seem real. One thing I find really hard is that I'm so used to saying "Grandma and Grandpa" that it's quite a conscious effort to cut out the "and Grandpa" section. The smallest memories, of everyday life, randomly come back and I fully expect him to still be around in the future. Especially because I feel like he was too young to go. He was 72. The average Kiwi male can expect more than that! Why the bloody hell couldn't he? (Perhaps it's telling that I initially wrote that sentence as "can't he?")

My father's sent me a package of photos and video from the funeral, but I just can't bring myself to watch it.

I do that, too. The memory thing happens, too. I keep hearing, in my mind, the way he pronounced my name, the little jokes he'd play on people, and the phrases that he'd say a lot. I'm sure when I go back to Louisville this week, I'll have the urge to go to, erm, Mema's house to visit (I almost did it too!). Pepa was pretty young, too. Mema was older. They should've had more time!

Ah, I couldn't, either. My cousin put together a show of pictures to play at the funeral, and that's what made me lose it. I was supposed to be comforting Mema, and she wound up taking care of me.
