At least Train Of Thought and Octavarium have some good songs. I think your description of "extremely bad in comparison but on its own is still pretty decent" fits a fair few songs there. I'd never dream of taking As I Am or The Root Of All Evil over Pull Me Under, but they still interest me and I loved hearing As I Am live. But goodness, Systematic Chaos completely lost me. I don't know if I'll even care much when the next album comes, that's just how much it has completely changed things for me.
