You know you live in Queensland when the temperature on a winter's day is 24C (75.2F for the Yanks) and that's considered to be just three above average (69.8F

Haha, no kidding! But their frame of mind is so different. They can't even conceive of giving up the fight, regardless of their chances of actually winning -- it would be like a loss of dignity for them or something. It is ridiculous, though; Israel has shown time and again that it can defeat not only the Palestinians, but the other Arab states too. Of course, the Arab response to this would be to complain about the US support of Israel, and to say that without the US, Israel would be nowhere, blah blah blah.
The brainwashing that goes on over there is just scary. In the West, it's hard to even conceive of the scale of such indoctrination, but in the Middle East it's everywhere. And really, when everything they read, see, and hear tells them how evil Israel is, how can you expect them to not hate Israelis? They've never seen any other perspective. It's horrible, how the whole society teaches little children to hate Israel and idealize "martyrdom." Like these videos, including one where an 11 year old Palestinian girl says "martyrdom" is better than peace and achieving rights for the Palestinian people. Awful. Mainly I just feel sad for these children -- they were never taught any differently.
Hehe, the entire conflict has a kind of ridiculous, childish feel to it, in my opinion. I really don't think it'll ever reach a peaceful resolution. The entire culture would have to change, and I don't see a way for that to happen. And yeah, it's hard for me to even try and understand why these people's minds work the way they do, and why they are so opposed to peace. ::sigh::
Oh, it's perfectly correct, as far as I know. A lot of these kinds of expressions that would be pretty ridiculous in English are just meant for emphasis. It strikes me as redundant, but the entire Arabic writing style is different from English, so I guess I just have to get used to it.
And hey, how are you doing? I haven't talked to you in a long time. Over the past half-year or so I pretty much stopped participating in LJ stuff, although I've still kept up with my f-list. How's your break going? My summer has been okay so far -- a little boring, since most of my friends are out of town, but it's still good to be home. =)
