AN: Hi everybody! Before you read this chapter, I would like to say something that I should have mentioned before: This fic is no where near the actual storyline of both movies, in fact, I came up with this before I watched either (haven’t watched Yatterman yet), so the terms and how their weapons work are pretty much made up. To those who haven’t watched the films, don’t be misled, okay? Now on to the fic…

Chapter 10:

An idiotic grin on his face, Nino walked through the Gantz barrier, the effect of his date with Sho yet to wear off and slightly proud at himself for making it back in time. In a daze, Nino didn’t realize his team members were standing in a triangle formation, arms folded and glaring at him until he rammed head first into Jun, who was standing at the front.

“What the?” cursed Nino, rubbing his head, “Guys? What are you doing?”

The scowl on Jun’s face deepened as he growled, “Don’t think we have no idea what you’re doing, Ninomiya,”

Nino blinked at them curiously, wondering what the taller man was talking about, “What?” he asked sincerely.

Without saying anything, Jun whipped out a card from nowhere, holding it in between his index and middle finger as though it was some germ-infected thing, “Can you explain why you have Yatter-red’s name card?” asked Jun sternly.

Gulping, Nino spotted Aiba’s terrified face amongst the swarm of angry Gantz members. The honey-haired man looked shocked, unlike the disapproving faces of the other members, and from the looks on his face, Nino could tell the rest were giving him a hard time too since they were known to be best friends.

“I’m dating Yatter-red,” Nino confessed in the end, thinking that making up some lie would only make the situation worse.

The Gantz headquarters seemed to have erupted as majority of the members started calling him a traitor, giving him looks of disdain or both.

“How could you?” muttered Jun under his breath, looking on the verge of tears, “I told you that they are lowly cheating bastards!”

“You don’t understand!” cried Nino.

“No, YOU don’t understand!” yelled Jun, obviously in rage as he grabbed Nino by the shoulders, shaking the smaller man, “It was their fault Toma was killed,” roared Jun, now positively in tears, “About half a year ago, the aliens exploded an abandoned mine, causing both teams to be trapped underground…” Jun shrieked in between sobs, “Both teams agreed to use our bombs to blow the sealed exit open, but those stupid Yatterman panicked when an Earthquake came and caused the bombs to go off while half of our team was still attaching it to the rocks…”

Nino’s mouth fell open in shock. So that was how Toma had died and the reason why Jun doesn’t like the Yatterman. Jun’s knees seemed to have gone weak as he collapsed to the ground, tears still falling down his face. Nino clenched his hand into a fist, feeling terrible for keeping his relationship a secret, but in his defense, he had no idea that things were this bad.

Falling down beside Jun, Nino whispered, “I’m sorry,”

“You’re sorry?!” spat Jun, “What you did should be considered high treason!”

Nino’s brows started to twitch, “We didn’t discuss anything about killing aliens!” replied Nino equally furious, “Besides, I still do my job!”

“Why can’t you see things from my perspective-” snarled Jun, but he was cut off when Nino shouted back, “Why can’t you see things from MY perspective?!”

Jun’s face turned livid as smoke seemed to be floating out of his ears. With a swing of his hand, Jun landed his fist on Nino’s right cheek with all the strength he could muster, causing the shorter man to tumble backwards. Thinking that backing down would meant he admitted he was in the wrong, Nino got back up and threw a punch at Jun, hitting him squarely in the nose. Before he could give Jun other blow or vice versa, the rest of the Gantz members have split themselves between the two, trying their best to stop the fight.

“Let go of me!”

“That guy needs to be taught a lesson!”

“Let me give him what he deserves!”

“Stay out of this!”

“STOP IT!”

The Gantz members froze as heads turn in the direction of the voice. Aiba, who was standing in the corner, was staring meekly at his shoes, his bangs hiding his face from view, but the soft sobs and the quivering shoulder gave him away, “Stop it…” he repeated feebly, wiping his face with the back of his hands, “We’re supposed to be a team…a team doesn’t fight amongst themselves…”

The atmosphere in the room turned slightly awkward, the two men who started it all slightly ashamed at themselves for using their fists to settle things. They were about to reconcile when Yamada Ryosuke said out of the blue, “What’s this?”

The other turned to look at him as he pulled out a small metallic device that was stuck onto the back of Nino’s shirt. The teenager held it close to his eye, examining it to find out what it was, but Jun knew what the device just by looking at it.

“It’s a tracking device!” shouted Jun his voice saturated with fury, “Ninomiya, you blithering idiot! You’ve just gave away our location!”

This time, Nino’s witty tongue had nothing to say to counter Jun’s statement. That device wasn’t there when he left, so it had to be Sho who had placed it on him.

“Dammit, Ninomiya!” roared Jun, struggling against the members holding him back.

Nino was tongue-tied. He couldn’t believe it. He just couldn’t believe it. Sho wouldn’t do something like that to him, “It’s a mistake!” he cried, “That isn’t a tracking device!” he spluttered, “It has to be something else!”

“Open your bloody eyes, Ninomiya, he used you to find our base!”

Nino collapsed onto the floor, clenching his hair in disbelief, “No, Sho wouldn’t do this to me…he won’t…” Shaking his head, Nino tried to convince himself that Sho really did love him, but whatever he told himself, a part of Nino’s head still doubted his true motives.

Thankfully, the alarms sounded, distracting the members from the betrayal. On the screen, Gantz had informed them that a new batch of aliens had invaded. Next was pictures of what the aliens looked like - most of them didn’t look human which made them easy to target. But the last picture had the whole room gasping in shock.

“No!” cried Nino who was half changed into his suit.

Right on the screen was a picture of Sakurai Sho.

“Nino, snap out of it,” hissed Aiba as they readied themselves for battle.

However, the smaller man was still in a daze, his weapon limp in his hands.

“Nino, this isn’t the time to think about that,” continued Aiba, urging his friend to focus on their mission.

“But…how? How could he…?” muttered Nino to himself, looking extremely pissed but at the same time sorry for himself.

Before Aiba could put in a word, the huge explosion went off somewhere to their right, making the Gantz members gathered behind a huge rock crouch down even more than they already were.

“Okay team,” said Jun who was substituting for Nino, “We are severely outnumbered, I won’t lie to you, so the plan is to stay alive until the time is up, understood?”

The team nodded.

“Head off,” commanded Jun. The group of roughly twenty people sped off in different directions, firing with their respective guns as they did so. Awoken, Nino paired with Aiba, following the lanky man south. As they ran for cover behind a dead tree, Nino tried to keep his eyes peeled for a man in white.

“Nino!” shouted Aiba, grabbing the smaller man and pulling him behind the safety of the tree, “Nino, please stay focus,”

“I’m sorry, Aiba,” said Nino truthfully, aiming his gun at a bunch of aliens which were attacking them from the black. Making up his mind to killing the aliens, but not Sho, Nino went into ‘alien fighting’ mode.

The battle was like a marathon and was on the verge of becoming epic. Nino had been shooting aliens for so long that his body went into auto-pilot. However, no matter how many aliens he killed, there will always be tons more. It was as if the aliens multiplied every time they were killed or something. Nino reached into his pockets, thinking of using a grenade, but to his horror, there was none left. Groaning, Nino delivered a swift kick to an alien which was approaching him and shot it.

Glancing around, he saw Aiba who was several feet away from him. Before he could wonder how they managed to get separated, Nino spotted a glimpse of white among the aliens. His heart leapt with joy as he noticed that the Yatterman had joined the fight, that was until his stupid memory reminded him that had been backstabbed by Sho.

Nino turned away, not wanting to remember about Sho. Mind made up to question the man later, Nino resumed the fight. He was doing a good job eliminating the enemy, until someone shouted “there he is!”

Nino could tell that the voice belonged to his fellow member, Kato Shigeaki, and it didn’t take him long to figure out who the ‘he’ referred to. Turning in shock, Nino spotted Shige aiming his weapon at Sho who was too busy to notice that he was in danger. Without thinking, Nino raised his weapon and shot Shige’s weapon out of his hand.

Before Shige realized what had happened, Nino darted towards Sho and pulled the older man along, “You can’t stay here!” warned Nino, “leave the fighting to us, just get out of here!”

“Nino, I don’t understand!” cried Sho as he dodge a bolt of lighting flying his way.

Nino stopped and turned to face Sho, “We’ve been ordered to kill you,”

The look on Sho’s face would have been comical if the situation weren’t so serious.

“Kill me? Why?”

“I don’t know, but just please leave while you can,” Nino begged, hastily pulling Sho away from the battlefield.

“Please, Nino, I need you explain some things to me,” said Sho stubbornly, planting his weight into the ground, “What do you mean you’ve been order to kill me? What did you mean ‘today was fun’, what-”

Sho was cut off when Nino yelled, “I have no time to explain, just please listen to me and get go-” Nino couldn’t finish what he wanted to say as Sho’s lips covered his own and began sucking the air out of him.

Nino’s head started to spin. He wanted Sho, he wanted Sho so damn badly, but they were in the middle of battle for crying out loud! Thankfully, Sho pulled away and brushed Nino’s hair which were all over his face to the side, “You will explain everything, right?”

Nino nodded.

Sho smiled, but his grin was short-lived for a rain of bullets came their way. Dodging the attack, Nino went into the opposite direction as Sho and got himself into a heated battle with a group of aliens. As the battle droned on, all Nino could see was the red of the burning debris and grey of the aliens, the only black he could see was the pitch black sky - he couldn’t see any other Gantz members.

Pulling the trigger as he aimed, Nino tried not to cry out in anguish as yet another swarm came his way. He was tried. He was hungry. He was bleeding in a few areas. All he wanted was for his mission to end. Turning on his heels, Nino ran as a new batch of aliens the same size as soccer stadium came his way. However, wherever he ran, there will always be aliens in front of him.

As he kept turning and running, Nino didn’t realize that he was completely cornered. Nino spun 360 degrees and all he could see was the enemy. He was doomed. Just as he was about to make his final stand, the ticklish sensation coursed through his body.

“Guys?” whispered Nino, wondering if he was still alive.

“Nino!” cried Aiba, pouncing on him and hugging him to death. In normal situations, Nino would have reprimanded his friend, but knowing that Aiba was still alive was a huge relief to Nino who could not help but return the hug.

“Is this everybody?” asked Jun, the only one in room standing. Nobody answered, but Jun knew they didn’t have to. Gantz and teleported them back as the time was up, but to everybody’s horror, there were less than 10 of the left. Jun slumped onto the floor together with the rest of them. The lean man folded his arms and used it as a pillow. Lying on the floor, Jun fell asleep almost instantly. The other members decided to follow suit, after all, they were in battle for near 4 hours and all of them were exhausted to the point where they wanted to sleep even though their bodies didn’t require them to do so.

Leaning against Aiba, Nino made himself comfortable on his made-shift pillow and was just about to drift off to sleep when a loud explosion jolted them to their sense. Jumping to their feet in shock, none of them were expecting to see smoking coming from the wall where the barricade is.

As the smoke cleared, the tension in the room heightened. None of them had a clue what was going on, but they definitely did not imagine…

“Hello, Gantz,” said a voice coolly.

The person, along with a whole fleet of aliens, stormed up to the Gantz members who had retreated to the other side of the wall. A smirk was plastered across his face as he watched the horror on the faces of trapped Gantz members, taking much delight in the fear that was eminent in their eyes, especially those of a small man in the corner.

“Sho…?”
