playgroup ponderings
I'm an American expat living in Germany and I have a 1-year-old son who I bring to local playgroups. One of the other moms, Cinnamon, is very kind, nice, and working on her education, but not really smart.
Cinnamon: Do you speak German or American with your son?
Me: When we're alone I speak English, but around Germans I speak German to be polite.
Cinnamon: Oh.... And where exactly do you come from?
Me: Texas. (Germans generally know a LOT about the US, and have heard of Houston and Dallas, but not Austin, where I'm from).
Cinnamon: And they speak English in Texas?
She also thinks people have 2 brains, but I'm cutting her some slack on that because she thinks the cerebellum is a second, separate brain because the German word for it means 'little brain'.
